Sucks for him. Hope he can afford to repair it. Should have known though if there was snow on the ground it probably wasn't best on the included tires.

.... says he was going about 40 mph to 50 mph on a 35-mph road when he hit a patch of what he called black ice or gravel. ....
Becasue it's SO hard to tell the difference between those two things.

Read this on Jalopnik yesterday that he tried to sell the car to Jay Leno because he can't afford the $100K taxes on the car.

If you every win anything big and there's a cash out option, always take the cash if you can't afford the taxes.

I wont argue on the taxes since I read some where that:
1> if you win a car
2> if you are gifted a car
you dont have to pay personal property tax/federal/state taxes....
well anyway....I agree with SB....this dumb butt drives for a living and does this....baaah....

2> If you are gifted a car, depending on what state your in, the DMV will take the value against your title taxes for personal property (VA it's 3%). It's the same as when buying a car, but gifted takes the lowest amount possible ($35) not 3% of current value or sale price.

1> If you win a car the dealer will send you a 1099 with the value for you taxes. This goes into Line 21 of your 1040 as "other income." You will pay income taxes (federal and state) on this amount but it's not "earned" against Social Security or Medicare taxes.
