Ouch.
Still, some of the values are high and seem to be based on the car's full value despite the car not being totaled, but repairable (#1 and #3; also Erikson's Enzo).

True. They're just trying to show the value of the car in the accident.

Plus, if Barrett-Jackson is any indication, the XJ 220 is only worth about $225k now

I alway loved that site, although looking at it is bittersweet. I don't understand how they question the owners driving their cars, though...I don't care what it's worth, what's the point of having it if you don't drive it?

umm, its a collector's item. the value is based on the fact that it is rare. as for production cars, like the veyron or enzo, yes drive it.

would you buy a signed mickey mantle ball and then play catch with it??

I've always been of the mindset that cars are meant to be driven. I see no point in buying it if you aren't going to drive it. Guess that's the difference between an enthusiast and a collector.

I would say out of the top 10, about half of them could get a new one. But damn the classic....

That car was meant for the track.

Pranging a fender or two does not destroy the entire car. Many race cars have different body panels after just one season anyway; almost all the old racing Ferraris have body panels different from those originally attached at the factory.

The Ferrari just needs custom body panels and standard frame work to get it back to good as new, and I doubt that work would cost $2 million, let alone $10 mil or $28 mil.

And the Mickey Mantle reference is irrelevant. An autographed baseball comes in a case b/c it's meant to sit on a shelf. If a car has all its working parts, it's meant to be driven...
