TL vs GTP - Driving Impressions

I drove with some friends down to New Orleans this past weekend to watch racing and we drove my buddy's 04 GTP 4dr Comp package. I don't know much about the Comp package except that it has paddle shifters on the steering wheel. GTP is stock except for a smaller pulley and some light programming.

In two words, TL wins!

TL is like a hundred times nicer inside. Only features the GTP had that we don't have are HUD and hmmm maybe that's it.

Reason I posted this was that a few friends asked me why I did not get a GTP and buy American. Well I don't like the interior on the GTP, a/c vents everywhere, no cup holders in the back, heated seats were either HOT or HOT. It had XM radio stock but not a very good display.

The TL interior blows the GTP interior by a factor of 10. Exterior the new GTP's are decent looking.

How was the engine performance?

This comparison is so lopsided as to be almost unfair. Its just hilarious that GM would even think there would be a comparison at all. Not even in the same league.

Those GTP's are ugly n' all but with a few mods they can run mid to low 13's.

A coworker drove his new Mustang GT to work the other day. I sat in it to check out the interior. All I can say is our TL's interior blows the doors off that GT. My god is that thing plain and ugly inside. When will Ford figure it all out. Nice exterior, crappy interior.

Just so you know 2004 Acura TL has one of the nicest interior out there. Unless you are comparing to Mercedes S class, E class, Lexus ES, GS class, nothing out there can really win you over just based on interior. Mustang is purely a SPORTS CAR, so when you compare the interior between the two cars, it's similar to comparing APPLES & ORANGES..

With the GT Ford couldn't spend the bucks to upgrade the interior anymore than they did and still have the car be affordable to their target demographic. Acura buyers are a more affluent lot and can spring for the upscale interiors. There is an $8k price difference so the TL better be a lot better and is.

yea the gtp still needs some work when it comes to the interior, but with 2-3 k or less in modds on the gtp, a modded tl-s or 3rd gen would never stand a chance. that 3.8 SC can make some serious and reliable hp

I know some 13 second GTP's and it's not that easy. This 4dr is a lot heavier too. I would say it was mid 14's. My TL would beat it from a roll. The TL would be harder to launch from a dig.

it's not fair if u compare with acura's interior with a Pontiac

Pontiac is the second lowest to chevy and use a lot of cheap plastic

what makes GTP comparable to TL is the performance with the 42 yrs old 3.8L OHV engine with a Eaton supercharger that is the same model used in the Aston Martin DB7, it has 260hp and 280lb of torque

they can keep up with our TL pretty well

not only that, the 3.8L engine never breaks down and u can beat the car everyday

i had a buick regal with 3.8L engine and it was a gd experience with the reliabity of the engine, strong and smooth

its damn near indestructable. the trannies can handle a shit load of power too. i know of 2 guys that are closing in on 350 wheel hp and are daily drivers. one has over 100k on it too

yeah i had it and i know so well

never had a problem with ignition, leave the car outside cold and will start every monring even in heavy snow, never bail you out

i wanted the car break down so bad so i could get a TL earlier but the engine was just like bulletproof!!!

the non-supercharged engines can last over 300k miles and still running strong

that's the reason why they are still existing after all. the small block V8 and 3800 V6 are signatures for GM cars
