Title Question....

Can someone explain to me the good/bad points about buying a car with a salvage/rebuilt title? What is different when registering/inspecting these cars? Reason I ask is someone is selling a 99 MAxima in my area for $4800, but it had a salvage title but now has a clean title. I never bought a car with a salvage title, so I want to know what would be different.

Thanks

Insurance companies may not insure the car or you will pay a higher rate. Most of the time a salvage title will be because of an accident. If metal is heated and repaired, the strength is weakened and if you are in an accident again it can be a bad scene. If it wasn't a horrible accident it was involved in and you are going to keep the car, you can get very good deals on salvaged titled cars. If you find a flood damaged car that was repaired correctly (electrical, mold...) you can get a perfect car real cheap. You just may have a hard time reselling it.

It says it was repaired in the rear quarter, so maybe it wasnt too bad. I''m gonna go check it out today or tomorrow, see how it looks. Looks brand new in the pics.

I would call an insurance company and see what they say about insurance on a salvaged titled car that has been completely fixed. The VIN will be on record through the title department and any insurance company should know whats up. You don't want to get the car and then get stuck with no insurance.

Oh, and make sure the car has good alignment and the didn't fix it with the body, frame or suspension out of alignment.
