I think I have the diverter as well...
you'll hear it with the downpipe and high flow or removed cat!

Diverter is the way to go. Dumps excess pressure back into the intake so it doesn't need to be done again rather than dumping it outside where it doesn't matter. Also, less ricer sounding.

it's what the car came with though...
I think I replaced mine on the Audi...the diaphragm on the older ones was prone to separation and leaking.

Why don't you JB4 it, in the mean time, while under warranty? It's a cheap mod, and you can do it so that it is completely reversible without a trace (there's an AFR wire you have to tap, but, you can build or buy a small harness that avoids you having to tap it, making it completely reversible without a trace).

According to their site...
The JB1 is a true user adjustable plug and play solution for all MQB based models in the VW Audi Group range. Power Gains: Starting at 45bhp and 45ft lb with 91 octane with + 4.80psi boost over stock on the default setting. Up to 90bhp and 70ft-lb with bolt on modifications, higher octane and boost adjustment with the optional BMS Data Cable.
They have a dyno on a stock A3 that appears to have gained just over 52lbft of torque. Those numbers quoted above likely are on the low end.

Same thing on the ST, until I changed to a BoV.

When I first got the car, I couldn't hear the turbo that much until I put on an aftermarket intake. Then the whoosh was nice and loud!
