Diverter is the way to go. Dumps excess pressure back into the intake so it doesn't need to be done again rather than dumping it outside where it doesn't matter. Also, less ricer sounding.

Why don't you JB4 it, in the mean time, while under warranty? It's a cheap mod, and you can do it so that it is completely reversible without a trace (there's an AFR wire you have to tap, but, you can build or buy a small harness that avoids you having to tap it, making it completely reversible without a trace).
According to their site...
They have a dyno on a stock A3 that appears to have gained just over 52lbft of torque. Those numbers quoted above likely are on the low end.

When I first got the car, I couldn't hear the turbo that much until I put on an aftermarket intake. Then the whoosh was nice and loud!
