For those who might know? *3rd gen tl or 1st gen supercharged tsx*

Just curious, how would a 6sp upercharged tsx with other mods do up against a 6sp 3rd gen tl with just minor mods (no supercharger).

Stand still?
60km roll?

Reason I'm asking is because I've saved up 30,000k for a car and I'm only interested in one of those.

Buy a tl and wont have money for a supercharger, buy a tsx and i can mod away.
What are your opinions?

TSX with a SC FTW!!!

I've never driven one myself (with a SC), but it sounds like you are interested in having performance with your car. While the TL would beat a TSX when both are stock, I've heard the TL feels more like a boat. The TSX is extremely nimble (what I have) and very fun but still with many luxuries. Go with the TSX and get a SC. If nothing else, I've heard that the SC whine is more addicting the crack.

The 1G TSX weighs around 200lbs less than the TL, its not that big of a difference, although it is there. Power-wise, there is no comparison between the two obviously. I had a 1G as a loaner and its pretty slow N/A. Handling wise, put a comptech or progress RSB on the TL and don't look back Its actually pretty funny that you brought this up because I ran into a 1G supercharged TSX on my way home from work and we did a little run, no more than 80-90mph but he wasn't pulling. Still trying to figure out who it is (if they're on AZ)

be careful on which year TSX you go with as the SC does not fit all years/tranny. do your research beforehand.

I'd say get the 3G TL. Just because i have it. lol

SC-ed TSX should be pretty much even against TL.

you could always get some aftermarket coilovers on TL.

first off...nice job saving 30k at 19 years old. im not sure what you did to get it, but whatever you did that is badass.

i would pick neither. go look at other brands as there is much more to offer lately from other makers besides honda. they are seriously lagging behind everyone else.

But seriously, I'm tired of driving my 98 4banger accord. So seriously, the highly modded tsx with a s/c would pull away from the lightly modded tl?

I'd go with the TL, I think it looks much better than the bland TSX. The 3G TL is such a nice looking car with some tint, a drop, and the A-spec kit.

Spend like 20k and learn to invest the 10k ...

Car is a depreciating asset. With the taxes, gas, insurance and maintenance ... what money will you have left over?

I meant that I saved up 30k for a car (and don't to spend anymore than 30k). Not that I only saved up 30k and am going to blow it all on a car lol. That would be pretty stupid haha.

To be objective, the TL would be better for you. It has a little bit more room so when you go out with more people or friends, its comfy. Also the TL is much more upscale and looks better on dates and other events. Also let me ask you this, would you have a warranty or not? An S/C will give the dealer every reason to refuse warranty items relating to the car, for example, the seat rail breaks, the dealer can blame it on the S/C saying the seat rail was not designed to handle such rapid acceleration. Also with the TL, you have the smoothness of a v6. The best thing with the TL is that you can mod it to be even faster than the TL, if you get the TSX, it's almost maxed out, but with the TL you have a field of mod's available, but not as much as the first gen TSX

Also consider this:

Modded TSX = 30K (est) 260 WHP
Used 2006-2007 TL + S/C + other mods = 30K 300 WHP

Hell you might even be able to get a 3G TL-S for $30k now if they're still on lots. That's what I'd do, can't get an 07+ TL in stick unless it's a Type-S anyway

Brand spanking new 2007 tl-s are only 30k over in America?
Jeez, I went to 4 different Acura dealerships here in Vancouver and non of them had any 6spd tl-s left. Only the auto's, and they were going for just under 40k (cnd).

I was thinking of 06 tsx with s/c or a 06 tl. I can't afford the tl-s living here in Canada. Even a used 2007 tl-s goes for around 35k here.

Those accords are nice. But I'm just not into spending thousands on a car that's only worth like 4 grand lol.

OP, just get a stock TL and have fun modding it.

I'm sure you are gonna get bored soon with the fully modded TSX..

I've always liked the coupes more, no matter what generation Accord.

Sorry, didn't mean it like that. Mine has a rebuilt status because I got into an accident with it. One of the stock rims are bent and 2 tires are gone, so i have these cheap after market rims that i got that cost me 300 bucks with tires. I have this loud exhaust that is annoying as hell... and there are a few dings here and there. Lets just say it was my first car, and i didn't treat it very well, and I also learned a heck of a lot from it. (As in, if I'm going to mod my car, only buy the best and use the best products)

I think its been like 8 months since i washed it LOL =(

Since I've driven a 6MT TL several times, own a S/Ced 2006 6MT TSX, and raced a lightly modded 6MT TL (intake + catback) in my S/C TSX, I feel best suited to answer the OP...

First off, the TL definitely feels considerably heavier than the TSX (difference is closer to 300lbs). As a result, it is not nearly as fun to drive as the TSX in the corners, even stock for stock. That said, the interior materials are nicer in the TL and it does feel a bit roomier (though in reality the TL only has 1" more rear legroom than the TSX ). The 3.2 V6 (in stock form) is a very nice and smooth engine, which is excellent for a luxury sedan. However, it doesn't really have that exciting aggresiveness that I personally look for in a sportier sedan.

In contrast, the TSX is a much better drive through the corners. I've never driven a TL on coilovers, so take my opinion as you will, but I personally can't imagine a FWD 4dr handling any more brilliantly than my TSX on Tein SSs. With the added S/C, the engine also has that pop that I love. I hit max torque @ 3k RPM, and it just comes on strong. Going FI with the TSX gives it a better power-to-weight ratio than a stock TL as well (particularly with regards to HP).


From a dig, it is close but the TL pulls ahead initially. The 6MT TL comes with a LSD which drastically reduces wheel spin/hop off the line, so while I'm still smoking my tires the TL gets a jump by about a 1/2 car length.

From a roll it's a different story. Depending on where you are in the powerband, the TL might needs a little time to build it's power. Conversely, the S/Ced TSX has power almost everywhere (I can show you my dyno if you want), so when you hit WOT, you just go. From a 40MPH roll up to about 100MPH, I was able to get well over a full car length ahead of the TL I was racing (again lightly modded with intake and exhaust) before we stopped.

Again, I will be somewhat biased because I own only one of the cars mentioned and not both. However, I have had experience with driving and pushing both, and results cannot be skewed .

You should ask about S/C'd TSX performance numbers in the TSX forum. I haven't seen any S/C'd TSX owner posting in this thread yet.

I was just going to say the same thing. Even 50% down, and invest the rest in an MMA or emergency savings.

I have to admit....they look pretty dang good. The back isn't my favorite, but the front compared to older models =
