Thinking I might buy a Scion XA
Well, I drive 120 miles round trip to work everyday. I am getting tired of almost getting killed when I ride the R1 to work. Don't want to spend a ton of money on gas for the TL or put miles on her.
So my other option is the Scion XA. I have poked around on the net and they have nothing but good things to say about it.
So, has anyone on here had experience with one or heard anything about them. Any info would be great. I am thinking of getting next weekend.
Oh by the way don't bite my head off. I am keeping the TL.

You should get a TC if you're going to get a Scion. But I agree that you should probably get a Fit. The Spoon Fit at Global was tight as all hell.

Apparently the gas mileage savings is scetchy. Some people barely make 20, some make 36.
If youre driving highway apparently anything over 70 mph and the engine screams.
But I think its cute and would get it simply because you could buy one used and the options are essentially set. My ideal would be to wait a few years and get the Yaris hatch used.

Get a used 2000 civic under 60K miles for under $8K get 30 to 35mpg more space good reliability and easy to fix on. Then call it a day or a daily driver!
Drive the TL to work on Fridays and everyone will understand why you are in a civic m-th and they will be jealous!

The TL should be able to get more than 30 mpg on the highway if you're using the cruise control and not driving too aggressively. I know for a fact that I could get more than 30 mpg by setting the cruise control on my old CL-S at ~ 75 -80 mph.
As for wanting to buy an new car so that you avoid putting too many miles on the TL I'm not sure if the math works out. A car is a depreciating asset. The newer it is the faster it depreciates. You may be better off continuing to drive the TL and getting ~ 30 mpg instead of 40+ mpg on a new xA and suffering the depreciation on both of your cars.

For one the TL get ok gas mileage but you have to baby the damn thing to get it. Plus the TL takes Premium gas and the Xa doesn’t. That is one thing you guys forgetting.
So even if the Xa beats the TL in gas mileage by just a little I am still doing better with the Xa because it takes the cheap gas.
Second I take the toll road to save on mileage. My toll road monthly payment is $120 a month. If I get a beater I won’t take the toll road. I will save that money and use that toward the beater car.
I worked the numbers out and I save about $275 dollars a month if I don’t take the toll road and get a car that gets good mileage. I could just use the $275 towards the monthly payment of the car and my TL gets to sit in a garage all day staying clean.
So I either throw the $275 away every month on gas and tollroad Fees and have nothing to show for it. Or use that money towards a car and have something in the end.
Does it sound like a good plan to you guys?

Well, I am not worried about keeping it low. I am just worried about having it to high. But you guys need to under that if I drive my car to work everyday......I will put 40,320 miles on it a year. That is way to much.

I dont think you'll really save much money by getting a second car.. 
Just buy some low rolling resistance tires and get it over with.

PS: It would be worthwhile to quantify the additional savings on the xA in terms of fuel and dimininshed depreciation on the TL against the depreciation on the xA, additional insurance expense for the xA, and foregone earnings on the capital invested.

Oh and if I did drive my TL to work it would be out of warranty before I am even done paying for it.
As far as insurance goes, I am selling one of my motorcycles. So I am getting rid of the insurance on the bike and it’s going towards the beater car.
Also I am going to keep the beater till the thing blows up on me. But the TL will be paid off in two years and I am going want to trade it in for a new car. I need something with more hp and rear wheel drive.

I don't have much love for any of the Scions nor the Fit or Yaris.
The Scion's no-haggle pricing system sucks and the tC is ridiculously expensive. The Fit and Yaris are way overpriced for what you get.
It's absolutely pathetic that the Civic obtains better fuel economy than the Fit...

Well, my wife’s mother works for Toyota. She gets this thing called a family discount or something like. It’s like a certain % over invoice.
She is looking into if she can get that discount on the scion line up. If so then I am going with the Xa.
If not then I am will be getting the Honda Fit.

This one isn't too bad.
The xA will get decent mileage if you drive it conservatively. It's not a car with zip to it. If you are on the gas, trying to make it go fast, your mileage will suck. I get a little over 32mpg in my xB. (I stay between 70-75..
) I must say, it's built pretty darn good. Solid for a little box. lol. If you want to get aftermarket parts, there are tons of them. I really like my box. I will say this though.. Had the Fit been out at the time I got my xb, I might be in a Fit right now.
