Thinkin' about buying a 350Z 'Vert

I've been thinkin' about buying a new convertible and have narrowed it down to either a 350Z or a S2000. What do you guys think? I have driven the S2000 and that wld be like driving a go kart every day, especially on thruway. Think I'd rather have the Nissan w/o the hassles. Who has either of this and what wld you recommend?

S2K is a nice car. But I don't like the high revving 4 banger :thumbsdn: They need to stick a 6 cyl in it, and move it to the next level. Don't misunderstand me, it's quick, but it really lacks any lust without a 6cyl /w a good powerband. On the highway if your in top gear, you'll have to downshift to move it...

Z4, 350z vert is the way to go. So much less effort passing people. Z4 is pretty quick, and the 350z is obviously pretty quick too. Z4 styling to me isn't anything too special. However the interior room is good, and the dash layout is very nice.

I haven't seen one in person, but I bet the 350z vert looks amazing. Toss the twin-turbo kit on it, and you'll have one fast topless ride!

I think the 350Z vert looks silly from the rear. I wouldn't be seen in one.

I'd go for the S2K or Z4. Might look into a used Boxter S.

Either of them are great cars. If you know how to drive 4 banger vtecs, then s2000 is an easy drive.

the z vert only look good with the top down. but both are hot cars.

Z vert is selling at sticker in my area. In fact, a local dealer has had one since September.

I've had the brief pleasure of riding in both...hands down for comfort & drivability, the Z. S2000 is a great car, but not if it's a daily driver or if you weight 200+ lbs & are 5-6" ft or taller. Visibility is a joke in the S2000 at stop lights...

:thumbsdn: I would get a used Z28 ragtop before I got the Z4. I don't like the 350z covert. either, mostly because I don't like how it looks with the top up. I would get the S2K. So fun to drive.

the Z vert only looks good with the top down. But if you really want a vert it would be hard to resist.

i like the z4 but its much more expensive then the 350z or the s2000, so im assuming it out of the question

s2000 is hotness, but 350z is more of a daily driver (e.g. radio )

isnt the 350z convertible like 40k??!

Not that big of a difference than the z4.

40k for a 350z is too much IMO

Why do you need a car for daily driving? Dont you have a 330ci and a CLS? Just get the s2000 and drive the other cars when you want comfort.

Chief, I haven't driven the S2000, but I love the Z coupe I traded in my CLS for. I'd never give up my Z for an S2000 - no way.

I'd get the S2000. The 350Z looks really ungainly and bloated with the vert. And the S2000 spanked it in a comparison. And Sports Car International gave it a pretty bad review.

But Jesel, not as bad as their reviews of the Z4. THey pretty much hate that car. And the editors are BMW owners.

Really? Which reviews are those, every review I have read was very favorable toward the Z4 (mostly the 3.0). Most of the negative comments toward it were in regard to the controversial exterior styling.

The 3.0 is a very nice driving car, even though it is a little expensive.

OK, i've driven the Z4 and it is a fine piece BUT you need a lot of options to make it what I want-ie: close to 50K total is 10K more than I wanna spend. S2000 is too buzzy and too small really tho I LOVE driving it as I have spent a good amt of time in one compliments of my dealer. That's why it's so hard to pass it up-on ramps at 75 in 3rd gear w/o so much as a tiny dramatic moment is pretty hard to pass up! I am 6'2" and 240 so I need a decent sized car and only want a convertible. I gotta go drive the 350 again. I planned on spending b/n 30-40 anyways so if I spend more for the Z than the S it doesn't really matter, I'd rather get what I want than settle for what I think I want price dependent. stay tuned!

The 350z convert is a great car. You won't go wrong with it at all. It's comfortable, has plenty of room inside and has plenty of torque to make driving around town easy and fun

The sad part is there's plenty of room for a V6 under the hood & Honda has plenty of good ones that would fit.

I read a comparo of the BoxsterS vs. Z4 in Excellence magazine. This is a Porsche mag. and even they liked it.

I'm 6-3 190. I fit perfectly in my s2k.

Visibility is not a joke at a stop light.

And loose the near 50/50 weight distribution? No way. I droive it once back in 99, and fell in love with the car, and how it handles. But I 100% agree with the go-kart comment. It is so fun!!

I like the Z, but just not in the Vert form. How much does the vert version weigh again compare to a Track model?

you know the whole point of a convertible is not b/c I'm looking for performance-which it has a modicum of anyways (350Z) but b/c of the fun to drive factor. I drive all over NYS and I'd love to cruise a nice comfortable car built basically for one to do it in. When driving the S2000 my body only fits in there one way, no moving around to find a variation in the seating position really. BUT, and it's a big but, this car is just waaaaaaaaaaaay too fun for the $$$$$. Moreover, I'm a Honda man through and through and have been since 1985 so it is difficult to think of a different type of Japanese mfr in such a positive light.

I'm torn but I'm leanin' big towards the 350

Then they must hang stop lights lower in your neck of the woods. I had to cock my head sideways if I pulled up anywhere near the line on the road.

I don't believe I am the only person who's mentioned this either.

That was my concern also, no real room to switch up if I was on a 30 minute or 1 hour drive.

350Z does have a nice engine that doesnt require high rpms to go fast.

the S2000 is a hot car that fills the gap between the Miata and the Z4...very well engineered car with an incredible resale value

the 350Z I think looks best in hard top but it does have the room you might need for long drives

the S2000 is made for tearing up the roads on the weekend and then driving a truck everyday.

tough call but post pics once you've decided

Beltfed, no joke they tested the manual and SMG and did not like either. I LOVE this magazine, absolutely the HONEST reports you and I need. And beatiful pics. They only test sports cars and sedans, no SUVs, trucks etc and posers.

I HIGHLY recommend a subscription. If u would like to see the articles, I'll try to scan or mail to U.

Dude, think of what your saying. Verts are to pimp, not be totally fun to drive. Fun to be seen in but they lose a lot of strutural integrity and add weight.

dude, have you driven a 'vert? It's a blast to have the top down completely exposed to the elements as you're flyin down the road. the Z adds some weight but only loses 1/10th to 60 so no big deal

LOTUS ELISE !!

It will cost you the same amount of money as a 350z vert loaded and will be 10x the fun factor and more exotic as well :wackit: :bukkake:
