I really like the new C6.
I had never considered buying a late model Vette, but I must admit I LOVE the new C6 and it’s getting rave reviews.
I’m seriously considering buying or leasing one as a “summer toy” in a year or two.
Apparently there are a lot of C5 owners with the same idea.
I pass by a Chevy dealer every day on my way to work.
The Vette’s are always parked prominently in the front by the road.
Along with several C6’s that come and go daily, I’m also seeing a lot of 2002’s and 2003’s.
They’re probably raping the people who are trading them in, but whenever I check the dealer’s website, the used ones are listed at 30,000+.
If I’m spending that much for a “toy” I’ll go a little higher and get a new one.
But whenever I see a nice one out front, it’s gone in a few days.
I figured I could pick up a used 2005 in a year or two because I’ve always heard that they drop in value like a ROCK after 2-3 years.
But are there really people paying 30-35K for 2002’s and 2003’s right now ???

I agree. Just suggesting you may want to go alittle further back and still get a great car.

ATXCLS, jsut traded out for a 2003 50th anniversary Z06. He payed in the mid-$20s for it. It just goes to show that you should never buy a new Vette. You'll lose your ass in resale. They also start to rattle more than our passenger doors after about a good year's use.

realistic prices out here for 02-03 zo6's is mid 30's.
You can pick up 00-01 coupes for mid 20's
I personally think they ruined the C6, it's not nearly as sexy as the C5 IMO

we have about 50,000 miles on our C5, not a rattle in the car
And all cars these days lose their value quickly, not only the vettes.

i went and test drove a C6 last saturday. i have been considering leasing somethin sporty on the side for awhile now. i really like my truck but i miss the car so much. anyways, i test drove the g35c, it was nice but it was cramped as hell. im a big guy (6'2, 315). so that didnt work to well. surprisingly the vette had a decent amount of room. much more comfortable then the g35c. the vette was a beast. it was damn fast, almost to fast. i just think its somethin that will get me in trouble. its gorgeous tho, the victory red metallic is a sick color. interior sucks on the vette (as usual). i have no idea why they wont put a decent interior in there. navi seemed cool, everything was touch screen... no door handles in the car, its all sensored with the key fob, just simply push a button to get in and out. push button start. it had a heads up display which was also cool. all in all, i thought it was a great car except for the interior. im still considering it, but its expensive and i know insurance will rape me. sweet car nonetheless....

Our vette is the most comfortable car i've driven. I'd much rather take that thing on a long haul then my dads new 7 series and there is no DOUBT i'd take it over his old S500 which may be the most uncomfortable car I have riden in

The 2004 non-z06's could be bought for under 40K new (with discounts it was almost 35K IIRC last May/June) so it's not suprising.
Vettes take a beating in resale value when the next body style comes out.
I'm thinking the same way you are Shawn, Keep the CLS as a daily driver, and buy a fun summer sunday driver. The Vette performance and price is right, but I've been looking at older 911's due to their better retention of value.

With Chevy discounting the C5's at the end of the production run, I can only imagine what the resale value of the 2004's will be when they hit the used car market in the next couple of years. This is not a new trend either, happens every time a new vette comes out. The "old" body style gets heavily discounted before it's phased out.

They did close in a bit of that horrendous wheel gap in the C6
Don't get me wrong I think the C5 is sexy also, but the C6
A guy had a black C6 out at the track last night He ran it, but I didn't get to see what he got.
I would love a used Vette, but insurance alone would rape the living dogshit out of me.
Little better for you (as they say) "Wiser" folks

There was just one of those for sale in my area and they wanted 37,000.

One nice thing about the Corvette is that many of the owners are “plus sized” older guys so the interior’s are designed along those lines.
If you ever happen to see a Corvette MEET, many of the owners are 50, 60 and older.
I feel comfortable in the Vette.
As compared to some Japanese sports cars that I don’t think I’d even be able to work the clutch.

I’m just planning to wait until probably the spring of 2007 and hope there are some nice used C6’s by then for a fair price.
Either that or I’ll cheap out and get a 2002 WS6 Trans Am for 15-Grand.

I could get into a lot of trouble at a place like that.
I see they already have some used 2005 demo’s but they’re all Slush-Box Tranny’s.

An older one would be about 100-200 less.
