Test drove Porsche Cayenne GTS

OMG, I am in love with this SUV. The thing handles as well as anything I've ever driven. I'm not kidding. It's that good. Power is so-so with a NA V8 rated at 405hp/369tq. The turbo would definitely have more kick. But the style and handling on this thing is insane. The salesman drove first and scared the crap out of me on the on-ramp. I dropped by my house and let my wife take a look and she didn't give me that immediate "Hell no!" look... so, who knows??

Yeah, to be honest I've never really even considered the Cayenne. Just not my cup of tea. But having a baby makes the Caddy less user-friendly - mainly b/c I have a huge sub box in the trunk. I looked at the Range Rover Sport S/C and just felt it was, well, cheap inside. The HSE was too big and felt too disconnected from the road. I might go test drive the GCSRT8 and see if the extra $40-50k for the Cayenne is justified. $80k is just a ton of cash.

Let me start with I hate SUV's, but I love the Cayenne GTS.

I sold a very an extremely sweet one last week. Basalt Black with 21" sportplus painted rims (Basalt Black, just like the body).

The Cayenne GTS is the GT3 of the SUV world. In 09 you'll be able to get it with PCCB.

My buddy just got the FX35 for his wife a few months ago and they love it. Can't go wrong with the trademark exhaust note either, although after driving the GTS it might not seem as glorious now?!

I have a feeling the Jeep SRT8 is going to be a little too sporty and cheap. I've heard the ride in those things is super harsh and has lots of creaks and rattles even brand new.

i've driven an 05 porsce cayenne turbo quite a bit and agree with the OP that the turbo is necessary. you can feel every lb of that suv as you're driving along, but when you hit wot, it's like she lost a few hundred pounds along the way

05 Turbo has 450hp 08 GTS has 405 and it's all motor. The GTS is no slouch compared to a 05 Turbo. When we get the 09 Turbo S with roughly 550hp and equal torque, that will be a different story.

Ive driven my uncles older Cayenne S....the N/A V8 in that is VERY ballsy...I had to always start in 2nd gear because 1st caused too much wheel hop with all the torque.

The V8 non-turbo has PLENTY of grunt...you guys are on crack.

Since Nokiaman gave me a lesson in posting pics, here is a GTS Basalt Black with 21" Sportplus Painted wheels....

Outside

Inside

This is exactly what the guy wanted, when I did a nationwide search, there were 4 black ones with the wheels.... and you think it's hard to find a CGP TSX 6 speed.

You can get a 6MT but you don't see many, I have one coming and lets say I'm eager to make sure it's fueled up. This one's a Tiptronic.

Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes if you see a Porsche with yellow calipers, take a closer look. Unless you take the car to the track, the rotors should last a lifetime. They are lighter and stronger and stop you faster than metal.

I may have spoken too soon on the GTS side, it's confirmed that you can get them on a 09 Turbo S. I suspect you will be able to get them on a GTS but will probably need 5mm wheel spacers. It's something you want to order from the factory (about $7K) vs installing at the dealership (about $20K).

Ah, thanks. I don't know, I don't think I'll be tracking a Cayenne even though it does handle well.

Do you know of any tuners to up the boost on the '05 Turbo models?

I think the renntech.org forum is the place to look for that.

SeattleCl-S, do it. The Cayenne has been one of my favorite SUV's since the day it came out. It's good looking (at least imo), mighty quick and off-road capable as well. I've driven an 06 Turbo and I was blown away by the thing. The thing can move.It can corner. The trip to the daycare/kindergarden certainly will be far more entertaining. I think that the GTS is the best looking out of the whole Cayenne range. Nothing comes close to it in the competition with maybe the exception of the ML63 AMG. Keep us updated.

I agree that the GTS is the best looking of the range. However, I'm spoiled by the acceleration of the Caddy and it pains me to think that I could be driving an $80k vehicle that might get out-accelerated by a whole bunch of cars on the road (insert small-penis syndrome joke here). That's why the Turbo model seems more attractive.

Well, I took the plunge and got this beauty:

http://images8.ecarlist.com/cgi-bin/...ir=1205_101161

It's a 2005 Cayenne Turbo with a full Techart body kit, 22" Techart wheels and a nice thick Techart steering wheel. I can't wait.

On a sad note though, I don't think my wife will let me keep the Caddy. It's going to be so sad to let her go (even though I had it up for sale a few months ago). She's finally tuned just right and summer is here to help make the most of the Toyo's. (sigh) She'll be priced to sell when the Cayenne gets here.

They are awesome trucks, and i'm not comparing. But, after witnessing my neighbors Grand Cherokee SRT-8 destroy a Turbo, i kinda lost a little respect for the vehicle as a performance SUV. But the Cayenne S that i have been in was worlds better than any jeep in terms of fit, finish and feel.

Yeah, I'm expecting to lose a race to someone in a GC SRT8 eventually...especially from a hole-shot. The Cayennes are pretty heavy. That'll feel kinda shitty since I rarely ever get beat in the Caddy and I'm not used to being the 'slow' guy.

Get some tuning done on the turbo and it won't be an issue or you could just make him take some corners, that should level the playing field.

Actually, I think the Jeep does pretty well in the corners too. My only real advantage should be less rattles
