test drove new SLK
Hey ...
I took my bro's C32 in to get the summer rims back on ... while I waited, I thought it would be cool to check out a new SLK. Let me tell you ... I was thoroughly impressed at the new 7-speed. For a normally aspirated engine, this thing has great power (and that's after I drove the C32 !!!) I don't know any of the specs but it is quick ... gear changes are smooth, ride is good, handles well around the bends. Took this thing around for about 15 minutes.
A couple of pet peeves ... I'm 5'9", 170lb ... when the roof is down, I don't like how the view is partially obscured by the top of the windshield. I didn't like the wind on the top of my head on the highway, either.
Overall ... a very good impression with the car. Handling, performance, instrument layout (even for a Mercedes) is good. Interior -- what you'd expect for this type of car. A vast improvement over the old gen SLK. MB did their homework! My only concern is it being a first year model. And with some of the Q/C concerns with MB as of late (ie my bro's AMG has been riddled with issues) ... I'll sit back and wait. For that kinda $$$ ... I'd rather buy a 4-door Infiniti M-series or modify a G35c.
