I thought it was an ok episode but not for a season finale. Maybe they could of saved one of those specials for the finale.

I liked the 959 vs. F40 and the SITRPC, which I rarely watch except for these last two episodes.

Loved the 959 vs. F40 segment. The F40 owner has my respect for letting Hammond fling it around like that. Never seen such a rare car driven like it's supposed to be. Nice change.

IMO the Jag XJ race was a bit "meh". Not as interesting/dramatic as when he's racing against the other two, and I think technically he lost. I 'ed at him calling God a loser, though.

SIARPC was pretty good. Wasn't he on once before, back in the day?

They are probably sueing because A) They are running out of money because whether it be 55 miles or 200 miles, electric cars as of 2011, are just an inconvienance & B) They are American, sueing is in our blood. If they we're sueing at the moment the episode aired, that would be one thing...but letting it air for nearing 4 years, then taking legal action, I'd say that would be your mess to clean up.

Who cares if they fibbed on the show, made for ENTERTAINMENT. If you seriously wanted a Tesla, and then used the Top Gear review to base your opinion on the car...you are ignorant. Jeremy bashes almost every Ferrari in the book...yet they still thrive. American cars (Corvette, Cadillac, Viper) have no chance, yet they still thrive.

Had Tesla not seen the show prior? Did they honestly think the charging process would not be mentioned? Did they think the disgustingly heavy "Elise" would prove itself against anything else? Tesla should have done their homework, as did Dodge by not sending them a Challenger in one of the episodes.

I mean seriously...without the home charging kit (that im sure Tesla supplies to your home) a standard 120v outlet will take nearly 40hrs to charge (http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/showt...recharge-times). Im sure who ever wrote that part for Jeremy exaggerated the charging issue to some extent, but Top Gear as a show is just a huge exaggeration, but thats why I love it.

endrant.

Very Interesting ...

When the Green World can compete with all fronts of the Real World {cost, reliabilty, feasabilty} it will no longer be a Sci Fi dream fantasy.
Until then ... looks like Green World "Telsa" will resort to Real World tactics of fudged advertisements and lawsuits.
Oh Fudge ...

I watched the video and thought it was a fair review. Honestly I'm not surprised that a hard driven Tesla only went 55 miles on the track. MPG on a gasoline car goes way down when driven hard. I think it's reasonable that a battery powered car would have a longer range if driven at 55 instead of 100+. I also didn't think it was a big deal that the brake system had a failure. I'm sure it's not the first car TG reviewed that had a mechanical failure during testing. If anything, Tesla should send TG a couple more cars and have them give another review.

I was pretty damn impressed with the straight away power of the car.

The reviewer also made a good point about "Hey where does electric come from? Oh yeah coal and nuke. So is this car really cleaner?" That's more of a general jab at all electric and plug-in hybrids IMO and not Tesla.

top gear has admitted before, in print, that they did this. I am fairly positive of this, they said even back then that it was in the name of entertainment

.....

I think you're missing a couple of relevant details.

First, in English court, loser pays. If Tesla loses they pay all costs plus TG legal fees. IOW - they must beleive they have case. All the moreso since English Libel suits are much harder to win than in the US due to different standards.

Second, based on the article, Telsa has asked TG to stop airing/selling the episode, based on their claims of faslehood, in the past.

....

The legal move is the culmination of a row that has rumbled on between the show and Telsa since the episode was first broadcast in 2008. .... the scene was still being shown on worldwide repeats and was available on DVD, and the BBC had failed to correct it.
.....

In a statement, the California-based company, .... said: "Tesla simply wants Top Gear to stop rebroadcasting this malicious episode and to correct the record, but they've repeatedly ignored Tesla's requests."
....

This thread just reminded me of this story
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPltV7Dk7Ck

It would seem that the guys from Top Gear are back to giving electric vehicles the what-for. According to The Lincolnite, James May and Jeremy Clarkson were respectively spotted piloting a Peugeot iOn and a Nissan Leaf through England during a cross-country trek (which is exactly what electric cars are for, right?).

The duo stopped by Lincolnshire County to ask about the nearest place to charge their alternative-fuel steeds, only to find that the entire municipality is bereft of chargers. Apparently May and Clarkson then set about driving around the city until their vehicles died and they were forced to get a tow.

If this all sounds familiar, that's because Top Gear rustled up a mess of snakes the last time Clarkson jumped behind the wheel of an EV. After depicting the Tesla Roadster as suffering a brake failure and running out of power, Tesla shot back refuting what happened as pure fiction. That little dust-up has yet to settle.

The truth is that the vast majority of people come to Top Gear to be entertained, and most viewers probably realize that there's plenty of editing that goes into each segment. We seriously doubt that most EV buyers use the UK show as a go-to resource, but that doesn't stop the constant ragging on alternative fuels from growing trite.

And the complaints begin

http://green.autoblog.com/2011/05/16...scharged-leaf/

Last week, Top Gear hosts James May and Jeremy Clarkson were respectively spotted piloting a Peugeot iOn and a Nissan Leaf through England. The duo stopped by Lincolnshire County to juice up their battery-powered vehicles, only to discover that there are no chargers in the entire municipality.

However, a statement released by Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd reveals that the Top Gear engineered the fiasco (surprise!) by intentionally draining the vehicle's battery. Nissan's UK director of communications, Tom Barnard, told AllCarsElectric that:
Pictures rarely tell the whole story, as is the case here. Top Gear has confirmed to us that the crew intentionally drained the battery to inject suspense into the mission of finding a public charge spot.

Lincoln is an area ... renowned for not having any public charging infrastructure. Top Gear does not intend to use the scenes of the car out of charge as an illustration that the claimed range is false.

[If] the car was fully charged overnight, we are confident that the presenters will have enjoyed driving it today.
It's being reported that Top Gear's episode will attempt to highlight the difficulties of charging an electric vehicle in a municipality that's known to have no public charging stations. But, as anyone with an ounce of automotive sense would know, even Lincolnshire County has thousands (millions?) of plug-in points. Can you say wall outlet?

But later on, after TGUS has matured a little bit and become less scripted. TGUK vs. TGA was a great episode.
