Just finished the first episode! Overall, I really liked it. The celebrity part was sort of meh and I can't say that I'm a fan of the new driver, but their chemistry was spot on. Plus dat intro

Welcome home boys, glad you're back!
Agreed that their NASCAR driver is a bit odd, when compared to the silent Stig.
The dead stars segment was odd, but otherwise a solid episode. Loved the intro.

Will watch it tonight. But seems the feedback are 100 times better than the new TG already as expected of course.

I liked it but the way they filmed it gives a different vibe of the 3.
Hard to explain in words, but it just seems the camera angle or something gives a different feel of the flow of their interactions.

After watching the first episode, now I realize what this is about
Though he probably had plans to build a new home anyway. Still funny.
Hahahaha. Typical Clarkson.

^ Right, saw the episode. Meant that in the trailer for the series, something is shown being exploded by a tank. Not sure if that's a preview of what's to come of your spoiler, or typical of the trio, something else being blown up.
#146
oh, that. In that link I quoted, a demolition company went out and razed his house into bits of rubble. Regarding the trailer, I think they shot a tank round at a van and obliterated it, but yeah it could have just been editing to make it look like that.

Starting the 1st episode now!! The opening was already amazing and giving me goosebumps with the whole London to LA transition.

OH man.. fantastic first show!
Agreed with all the "odd bits" but I'm thinking it's sort of a jab at the old show and they plan on doing things news. I doubt Mike Skinner will be the new Stig nor will Jerome d'Ambrosio do it either..
Should i give up hope too?

You guys might have a chance at being on the show. Maybe like years later. Heh. At least you're in SoCal, I think even this thread mentioned they're going to be filming there some time.

I subscribed to Amazon Video just for this. Honestly, I thought I was through with TG, Jeremy, James, and Richard. I've seen it all already. Despite all of that, I (and my wife) thoroughly enjoyed Ep. 1. As someone mentioned above, the production actually looks better. Here are some aspects I like, and why.
- The tent: This blows the regional Top Gear formula out of the water. Genius.
- The chemistry: It's there. You just can't beat, mimic, or recreate what Jeremy, James, and Richard have.
- On time: We no longer have to wait in the US to see an episode.
- The format: It's just different enough to be fresh, while sticking to the winning formula.
- The track: That course is too tight. It's also noticeably ragged. There doesn't seem to be anywhere where you can stretch the legs of a supercar there.
- The driver: Keep the former F1 / Formula E guy. Ditch the country boy.

I don't mind the redneck driver. It's just a persona he's playing anyway. Plus it allows them to make quips about the driver, which unfortunately is no longer The Stig... who was a blank slate for them to literally make up anything about. Plus he has skills as well, if you look into him.
Meet Mike Skinner, The Grand Tour's New American Not-Stig
The track looks good to me as well. It looks small, but it's about the same length as the Top Gear track, when comparing the lap times.

Skinner was one of the big surprises at Goodwood this year handling a NASCAR truck.
As Costco said, he can really drive.

Racing tires on that prepped truck, but nonetheless very very impressive and ballsy driving. He keeps very good company... don't know most of the names to be honest, and it looks like they're all street cars (except the LM?) but most of them are Le Mans, F1, Touring Car drivers, etc.

I guess dying celebrities will be an ongoing thing for the Celebrity Brain Crash segment.
The special forces segment was pretty funny with James May repeatedly getting killed trying to get the Renault.
So far, episode 1 > episode 2.
