lol, reg public I expect to have no idea...but even dudes who try to run you on the hwy?? tsk tsk tsk....I'm always wary of any car that looks tastefully modded with minimal wheel gap, a lowered ride height....as a potential big sleeper....

This is so true, couldn't of said it better..

No doubt the AMG's especially the newer models with AWD are crazy.. However, over the years I've found that usually the guys in AMG63's, M5's, 911's RS5's etc, for the most part keep to themselves and don't antagonise you.. IME it's usually the guys (not everyone) in the modified Civics (lowered with fart cans), Altima's, Maximas and recently Accord Sports that think they are qualifying for the Indy 500.. I mean WTF...

but those don't feel as gratifying to slay!

Shiet...I had a WRX (not Sti) that clearly had upgraded turbos etc...
we were on a curve so I backed off but he was gaining on me in the V.
I was like, damn...gonna have to do pulley soon

You're right, no fun at all.. I was only explaining what I've experienced in the 5 years I've had the V, and usually I let those cars go around me I don't even bother. BTW not sure how it is around by you, but here most Pirus drivers drive like they have something to prove..

But my favorite was a Maserati GT driver who clearly had no idea what a V was.. He found out the hard way when he decided to tailgate on a wide open highway. I was in the middle lane, other lanes open but the a-hole had to tailgate. So I put my foot down and he disappeared, then I backed off and got off two exits later and he's back and exits with me. Now at a light on the service road.. He takes off like a a maniac I reel him in and pass by him.. Next light same result..

Third light I already decided I'm done, let him do what he wants... He only pulls up to my quarter panel, light changes he drives away calm won't pass me even though I'm just cruising.. This continued for another 1/2 mile until I turned off, as soon as I turned I heard him floor it again. LOL... I will admit those cars sound really good...

I think the older 2010ish 63's are beatable for sure. The new 63S' tho, I don't even make eye contact, I'll get off an exit early if anything..

It's definitely getting more interesting with some high performance cars dropping in value and getting picked up by the younger crowds. S4/S5's/AMG's are popping up everywhere around here.

So far just an intake, all downhill after that..

I have a planned "stage 1" list of mods I'm hoping to have ready for the spring..

- 10" lower pulley
- LS9 cam
- 90mm TB
- Ported snout/port matched blower
- Injectors
- Reinforced brick
- Heat exchanger
- Meth
- Tune

Aiming for 14 psi & 600-650whp, meth will probably push that closer to 650..

I've always loved modding cars but having a platform that has serious aftermarket support & such a legit community is intoxicating to say the least. Also helps that there's an abundance of quality used parts which help take a load off the wallet, shit can get out of hand REAL fast...

sweet. That's easily over 700++ crank hp....

Now my only concern is tires/traction (what's the widest rears you can fit on a V? lol) and also longevity of trans/diff/axle....

The plan is to run 285's all around, want the car to handle. Knowing how to use the gas pedal is the key with this car lol.

As for tires, I really like the Pirelli Trofeo's. They're more of a track oriented tire but I had them on the RL & they were LEGIT. A big thing for me is finding a tire with a good balance of dry/wet performance, I drive my cars everywhere, rain or shine... or snow

Drivetrain wise, if anything is gonna go it would be the clutch. Still the original part & really isn't an issue till 650+hp. Otherwise, from what I've read, the drivetrain is pretty stout.

I had PSS and then Sumi and holy shit did those PSS hold traction well...
I would recommend them highly and they seemed to last a decent amount of mileage too.
You're nuts...650 wheel whore's power is what @CCColtsicehockey is making, roughly...
but he doesn't do burnouts so...

Those are similar numbers to what I am making. Any reason you don't want to go 9.1 lower with a 2.5 upper to get 15.5psi? I mean you already live where temps are colder and I wouldn't want to mess with meth if I didn't have too. There are plenty of ways to compensate for fuel without having to do that. If you are doing it for the cooling then do an overflow resovoir and get an upgrade pump. Also replace the hard line section to the heat exchanger. Doing that would would have 650 all the time instead of only when on meth.

I do have 650 and I don't do burnouts and it drives J mad. My continental extreme sports seem to hold fairly well too for much less than those PSS.

Even though the 2.5/9.1 & 2.4/8.6 are the tried and true setups for these cars, I like the idea of doing just a bigger lower once and not have to worry about an upper unless I really wanted to go all out. Another plus for lower only was that it would keep more of a sleeper engine bay with the stock upper.

Well that was the plan, till this weekend. Found a thread on ctsvowners about the Powerbond (Dayco) balancer with a 8.6 pulley for a crackhead price through Autozone. Called the Autozone just over the border in Niagara Falls to confirm the price & long story short, I now have a 8.6 lower for the crackhead price of $189.99...

Talk about a boost to the budget ..saved over $500 that I would of otherwise dished out for the ATI balancer. It's specifically built for the HSV GTS in Australia which shares the same LSA engine. So with that turn of events, I scrapped the 10" lower idea & aiming for a 2.45 upper to get to that 15.5 psi range.

As for the meth, I'm not 100% sold on it but there is some great info on it. I also have a buddy with a FBO 335i w/ only pre boost meth & he loves it. Simple setup that is boost dependent & is just consistent. I get the risks with meth but man is it tempting.. ..The other thing about the meth, it is cooler up here but the summers are brutal with the humidity so any aid in cooling is a plus, just not trying to push aggressive timing that's dependent of the meth..

Definite good find on the lower. Since you will now be going with a smaller upper I would do a lingenfelter upper hub and a 2.45 griptech pulley on the it. Pulleys below 2.5 have been shown to slip sometimes and the griptech pulley prevent that. I was going to go with one even for my 2.5 setup but I got a steal on a lingenfelter hub and pulley used.

I still suggest doing an icebox and larger pump. If you only do one though do the pump first with larger lines. As I am sure you have read heat is more an enemy to these engine than your average car. That is why I did every cooling mod possible.

Definitely going with the griptech, if there's nothing used available at the time, I may grab this stage 1 kit which seems like a great price.. Stage 1

Cooling wise, ditching the hard lines and going 3/4" throughout. A ZL1 lid would be nice but really hoping to find a ZR1 pump, almost impossible but I'll jump on one as soon as it pops up.. ..Which pump are you using? Varimax?

You do some serious research...
I was such a basic bitch...intake, TB and axle backs and I called it a day.

I never understood the reason to find a ZR1 pump other than the fact it bolts right up I believe. I am running the Varimax which I believe lingenfelter sells one with an adapter harness so it plugs right up but I didn't do the install.

From my understanding, the ZR1 pump is the strongest available pump aside from an EMP (sp?). Aside from that, like you said it's a bolt in part & I'd like it for an OEM+ touch for the build..

That's a good question..

If I can get to anywhere near 650whp I'm sure I'll be very happy & it will be plenty of car with the 6MT.

Loooonnngggg term, twins sounds like a blast..

i think power is addicting and once you get used to the power levels, you will keep wanting more... i remember at first when the car felt fast, and now i'm just like meh...

do you have E85 up there? that will help you achieve your number quicker too...

if you are just pushing everything in stockish locations (i.e. heat exchanger, lid, pump) then you can get away with a varimax and replace two of them before you hit the price of a ZR1 pump... if you added in an underhood tank with a lot more capacity i'd go ZR1 if you can find one, otherwise varimax works fine too... if you have a trunk tank i'd go EMP...

Power is most definitely addicting. I'm also getting to the point where it doesn't seem as fast as when I first got it..

Chances of finding the pump used for a good price is slim to none & it is more of a wish list thing. Would never pay retail for one.. ..just gonna ride out the stock pump & upgrade if needed.

There's also no e85 up here, going 91 or 94 if anything.

Well it's been an eventful few weeks roaming the CTS-V classifieds on FB. Wasn't planning on anything else for the car this year but some deals are too good to pass up.

This round of mods include:

- Milled ZL1 lid w/reinforced brick
- 1.8 Gal expansion tank
- Infamous ZR1 coolant pump
- Core short shifter w/ knob from Artem

Got around to installing the shifter last night & words can't describe how bad ass it is.

I thought the car was fun before, completely different animal now..

Merry Christmas guys..

If I keep finding parts cheap enough who knows where I'll end up...

Been getting the itch to do more work on the car & still need to get fittings/hose for the coolant system so I decided to install the 90mm LS7 throttle body I've had for a while.

Was gonna wait to have it ported but I've been reading about the ZL1 guys bolting these up stock & picking up 10-15whp/wtq. Not sure if the power claims are legit but there have been more than a few dyno charts that confirm it.

Either way, bolted it up this morning & it literally took less than 15 minutes. Did the throttle relearn & initial impressions are that it definitely helped with throttle response, breaks loose a bit too easy now...

Here's some pics of the install..

Difference in size isn't much, 87 vs 90mm but the LS7 definitely has a bigger motor. Clearance is quite snug with the upper pulley..

Catch can is definitely a must...

All back together..

Quick pic, outside hiding at a family function...
