Taking Car For Check Before Purchase...Dealer?
I'm looking at purchasing a used G35 from a private party, but would like to have the vehicle checked out before I do. Where can I have this done? Do I have to go to a small mechanic shop, or will dealers look at it?
What is the proper term to ask to have a vehicle checked out?
Thanks for any responses in advance.

A dealer will look at it, but I unless you have a trusted dealer I would try and find a mechanic you know and trust.

Ask for a pre-purchase inspection or mechanical. Well worth it for the piece of mind.
If the owner has a record of repairs and servicing performed as a particular dealer or garage, try contacting them for verification.

Any dealer or shop can do an inspection on it. But the dealer will cost you a ton more. Usually it's a min 1 hour labor, sometimes 2. At a dealer rate that can get expensive.
I just had some trucks inspected by my local Ford dealer I'm looking at buying. I know a tech there however so it was free for me.
