Stupid neighbor opened her door into my car...

Long story short, I live in an apartment complex and my neighbor opened her car door and it hit my car, causing a small ding but chipped the paint on the ding and a 2in line above it. I wrote down her plate and I slammed my door (of my apartment) and she left right after... Anything I can do?

why didn't you confront her?

Anyway, if the law in Illinois is as messed up as it is in NJ, it's going to cost you money to report it to your insurance company since you'll still have to pay the deductible (assuming you have comprehensive coverage). And no, her insurance co will not pick up that tab.

I think you should've approached her immediately. If she hasn't washed her car since then, you might be able to check for any possible paint transfer on her door, which would help your cause.

Also, you can line up your cars once again in the same position they were in when she opened her door, and prove that her car lines up with your damage. This'll help you as well.

My gf confronted her right after and I did watch her do it... I was fiddling with my fish tank and she said she didn't see any damage and by the time I could look at it, she left.

Well, your GF might have saved you. Continue to pursue your claim with her.

Plus, you saw her do it. So be polite, and ask if she will address this, if not, the next person to talk to her will be your lawyer.

Confronting her is really the only choice. Chances are she will ignore you, but try being nice about it first.
