I'm going to be in NC all this week and next week. My awesome job is allowing me to work up here for a change. I'll be in Greensboro for my sister's wedding this weekend, and I will be in Smithfield next week.... The measure is smiles per gallon, not miles.
. I can live with 22 highway mpgs. If it were all city, 14 isnt going to work. Otherwise, I'd cry.

Yes, its true. I had to let it go. Despite doing my research prior to buying the car (including talking to the previous owner), something didnt seem right with the car. As I live out of my car sometimes weeks at a time, I have to be able to trust it. In the 3000 miles I put on it after an oil change, I was able to trigger the low oil light TWICE: once back home in Eastern NC (and I had a quart in my trunk), and on my way to DC (at 9pm in Richmond, and I couldnt get my hands on any 5W40). And that was within 3 days of each other.
So, I just admitted to myself that it was an emotional purchase, not a rational one. And an expensive mistake at that.
I pitted dealers against each other, and was able to salvage the value on it. I traded it for a barely used (4k miles) Blue/Cornsilk 2012 VW Passat TDi w/DSG, fully loaded and CPO'd. Nowhere near as fast, but def has more toys and gets more than twice the Fuel Economy than the RS4 (45 mpg vs. 22 mpg)

But I have no clue what to get next. A 5-speed Legacy wagon? S2000? EVO/STI? I honestly dont even know....
The Accord is still with me, but is supposed to be sold this coming weekend. At least in this transaction, the buyer is paying slightly more than what I paid for it, despite me putting 20K more miles on it. A rare victory.

Maybe I can catch you next week when I'm in Raleigh...
The Accord is supposed to be gone this weekend. So far, the VW (I call it Rudy) gets up to 45 mpg. Supposedly, its not even fully broken in yet (and when it does, people report close to 50 mpg).
I'm thinking my first mod will be tint, followed by a TDI & DSG tune and maybe coilovers.

Team Greatness...
lol...on the MID.
Great pick up, can't believe you dropped the other one so quickly but fk that...45 miles per gallon versus 45 gallons per mile all day long...
Great looking car...luckily that front plate was mounted from underneath and is probably long gone. Also, they don't believe in tire shine at that dealership!

Its very entertaining. The Passat makes peak TQ (236 ft-lbs) at around 2000 rpms. Theres minimal turbo-lag too. The handling is whats to be expected of a bigger car....very forgiving suspension. Its plush, but not Buick/Cadillac-like.
Im so used to peaker engines, so its an adjustment to keep the revs low on purpose. I like the DSG transmission....but I need paddle-shifters, and VW omitted those from this car
VW/Audi does an excellent job with turning radii in their cars. The Passat, despite being a bigger car, feels like it has a smaller turning radius than my Accord.
VW also did a great job updating its multimedia display. Theres alot I can control on the steering wheel. Also, this is the first car Ive ever been able to use the bluetooth audio feature.

So, its been almost a month already. And I have put 4K on the car. Its so easy to go so far. Its been home once and to Ontario this past weekend. I managed to avoid getting fuel while in Canada, and that was really nice. The TDI engine is really loosening up some, so the car feels quicker, especially below 3K RPMs.
Signed up to get a tune within the next month or so. Supposed to add 20 whp and 62 wtq. Hope to get my tints this weekend.

Congrats!!! That's a great pickup!!

If it was a precursor, he was smart to let it go. I just hope he didnt lose too much.
. Looking forward to pics of the Passat and, of course, the next FUN car

That's epic mileage. Can't wait to see what kind of numbers you put with a tune, as well
