based on the previous thread re. the GLK/SRX, the likes of the Jeep, Escape, etc. are not going to cut it for her.

I would stay away from the X1, as it will seem like a downgrade to her previous X3. (as we all know the X1 is probably nicer than the previous gen X3, a woman would still be quick to see it as a downgrade).

i say, shop around for demo RX, demo Q5, demo GLK (again). If all fails, just get an RDX and call it a day.

No SRT8 for her....

I just priced out the GLK for her, I'm buying it extremely cheap because it's a "favor". It's cheaper than every car I listed, and it's a 2 year lease. Loaded car UNDER $400/month.

They refreshed the '13, so it's a little easier on the eyes. Still not my favorite car looks-wise, but we shall see....

I have some decisions to make with her tonight....

^Scratch that.

Apparently MB changed the location of the shifter from the center console to the column for '13, like most of their other cars. My wife HATES that. I'll discuss with her when she gets home, but I think that's a deal breaker...

I saw those...Eyelashes not my thing, sorry...

She's home now, we discussed the GLK, she is willing to go with it even with the shifter in it's location of where it is, mostly because it's at least $50-$75/month less than everything else.

Oh, and my wife has been monitoring the posts here, and she wanted to express to all the members who posted that she has every right to be picky about her car, because it's the only thing she's picky about (Hey, she married me, right? ) . She makes me happy, so I want to make her happy. And for what it's worth, she said she wouldn't mind the SRT8's power, but it's a wee bit out of the budget...

She has the right to be picky about whatever she wants because SHE IS THE WIFE! END OF STORY! Get her something that she enjoys, E. Especially after the debacle you guys are going through.

The New RDX is very nice. i have been looking at it. I like it better then the q5. the seats are nice, it is quiet inside and the stereo sounds good. The ride is a perfect balance between taut and comfort.

Would you pay almost $100/month more for the RDX over a GLK? GLK is 24 months, RDX is a 36 month lease. As much as I love to have the RDX, that's a HUGE difference in price...

what would be the going monthly rate for the average joe trying to get a loaded 2013 GLK on 24/mos? Would think it would be close to 600, or over.

PS, i think the breakeven rationale for getting an RDX over a loaded GLK would be $50/mo in savings. and seeing how an RDX would come in at 500/mo, instead of 350/mo(50 less than GLK), this is a big win on the GLK.

While I also like the 2G RDX, that is a notable difference.
Any other considerations?

This was proven to be false...as something about that test wasnt done properly.

It was recreated by some other company and the car passed with flying colors.

I guess it depends on how much you think you might have to spend on repairs for the GLK. I really have no idea what their reliability record is like, but I know most German cars can get costly.

Then again, if you're just going to hand the car back over at the end of the lease, disregard what I'm saying and go with the GLK if you like it.

I actually like the RDX

The 1G RDX on the other hand was a brilliant powerplant in just the wrong vehicle.

My dad's '03 ML350 has been pretty much bulletproof. It's got nearly 80K miles, no issues. Other than the fact that it's a bit on the thirsty side, it's a great SUV.

Leasing a brand new car for 24 months that has a 48 month bumper to bumper warranty, a vehicle that all I would have to do is change oil/fluids and fill up gas I need to worry about costly repairs? Heck I don't think I'll even go through a set of brakes or tires because it's such a short term lease and my wife will probably put 10k-11k miles on it by the end of the lease. Don't think that's a problem for me. We had her SRX for 18 months, was about to take it in for it's second service until this happened, I paid nothing but the monthly payment, insurance, gas and tolls.

The GLK isn't one of my or her favorites, but it does everything we need it to, has everything we want (except for remote start), and she says she is willing to go for it this time, even with it no longer having the shifter in the center console. She's thinking at this point with the budget in mind. If we are going to save about $50/month over the SRX, we will go for it. I think.

Only annoying thing is that she will take any interior as long as it isn't black, and with the GLK, 90% of the cars out there have a black interior. We have it narrowed to 2 cars, one Palladium Silver with the beige interior, it has premium 1, multimedia (nav/camera etc), heated seats and keyless go. The second car is Lunar Blue with an ash interior, has the same options, but also has the upgraded Harmon kardon sound system (don't care for this). I really would like to find a car with a lighting package to get the bi-xenon's, but with her interior color restriction, is making it a little tough. At the prices he is offering it to me for, I can't ask him to swap a car for me, plus I don't really have time to wait. I hope to finalize something today. Worst case, I'll just take the palladium silver and forgo the lighting package.

Leases for them are ridiculous. A sub $40k car that leases for over $700/month is a joke...and people are paying it, too! That's the crazy part...

this made me chuckle...funny thing with women and details...the reasoning is almost opposite as men. while this situation may be annoying for you...to be so limited with these specs (esp for someone that is in your line of work), you may just have to suck it up, and lock in a deal with a GLK that simply has beige leather, and dont sweat the other details.

I may have missed it... but why not another SRX? Those things are sweet. If they had an SRX-V, I'd be all over it...
