Spotted Mercedes SLR

I seen one at a light yest. imo i think its the ugliest thing in the world. the front end is long as hell. to each his own i guess. i wouldnt pay that type of money even if i had it.

what you guys think of it?

Minch00 09-26-2005 01:24 PM

Overpriced.

TLofNYC 09-26-2005 01:31 PM

Meh, it has plastic on the interior. Plastic. On a $450,000 car. Not much of a status symbol when you have cheap interior materials.

Where is plastic on the interior?

And I agree on the car being overpriced when compared to the CGT, SL65, etc, but what car at that price range isn't?

AsianRage 09-26-2005 02:49 PM

Steering wheel? Dash face? A/C trim? :dunno:

Curious, have you ever sat in one?

Chief F1 Fan 09-26-2005 03:24 PM

I'd take it for a test beat as Shawn S would say (as he did when I told him my ZR was located at a dealer near his home)

S A CHO 09-26-2005 03:27 PM

I love that car, and I saw one also, driving by...I can honestly say it had the brightest freaking HID's Ive ever seen...

Steering wheel is leather and A/C trim/Center dash area is not plastic, its aluminum. The intstrument area is the only area I have seen that is plastic (SL has it covered in leather).

If anything it has minimal plastic parts of the supercar group. Compare the SLR to the CGT....looks about the same or maybe less on the SLR's part.

Yes, I have. It was brief, but that's all it took to realize everything silver in the SLR interior is cheap feeling, and sounds terrible when you knock on it. The SL600 I sat in next to it felt much better, materials wise.

Everything silver in the Carrera GT = magnesium or aluminium. Not the same can be said for the SLR. I love having rich friends :D

Edit: And if what is on the SLR is real aluminum, so is the trim on my CL-S :tomato:

Guess that answers my question then. I thought that MB used much of the same parts from the SL in the SLR.

I haven't sat in the 600 yet but I can't believe it would be much nicer than the 55's interior. Everytime I sit/drive in the 55 I can't believe how "complete" the interior feels.

Minch00 09-26-2005 07:13 PM

The only thing that interests me on the SLR interior is the start button on the gear selector. That would be super cool :pimp:

Deity711 09-27-2005 11:04 AM

Even if there is plastic in the interior, I think the use of plastics in modern cars is near unavoidable. I mean, sometimes plastic is just the right material for the application.

That said, at least they can use nice looking plastics, not cheapy stuff like the silver things that were described.

srika 09-27-2005 11:50 AM

plastic = lightweight :nod:

I love the SLR - I agree it looks kinda odd from certain angles but - I'd deal with it. :)

BadBadNeil 09-27-2005 11:53 AM

Maybe its a really "rare and exotic" plastic. :)

I still think an auto is called a shift knob

Check auto the reference to "shifter knob" Acura uses for the MDX, which has no MT

but i know better than to argue with you
