Although I have never really had a chance to "ring it out" yet, but that tranny is wierd.
And it is a VQ35? Huh, never knew that.

I also have trouble teaching teh wifey how to drive stick.
I owned a 5-sp maxima when I was single. After we got married, I wanted the wife to be able to drive it just in case, so I decided to teach her how. BIG MISTAKE. Every time we tried she got frustrated and end up fighting with me. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I eventually gave up.
I have since replaced the Maxima with a Murano (the VQ lives on!! ), so every thing's cool. She got the Murano, and I am driving the CL. But I miss manual so much I am seriouslt thinking of dumping the CL before the 100k tranny warranty expires and getting a manual sedan/wagan again.
What to do, what to do...

It wasn't the no tourque comment that got me. It was the stands still at 2500RPM comment that had me rasing an eyebrow

I'm with scribby on the tsx issue... I think a Artic Blue Pearl TSX would look good in my driveway.
Ry's car looked real good. He and VB have the same suspension setup too...
Let's just say, I've gotten alot of ideas since seeing their cars at the recent meets

Like I told Scribby in the TSX section. I'd hate to see him run out and trade it in only to realize later that he should have had more patience in waiting for his wife to pick up the MT.
The TSX isn't for everyone and the AT is definently not for those who value power.
I'm just happy I didn't have to experience 280 lb-ft before picking up my AT TSX

I took lessons from this outfit. I'd never even started a car with an MT before, and by the end of the afternoon I drove the car the 25 miles home from the lesson without issue. It was like $50, so just give it a shot. I'm sure there's a similar business around you somewhere, what's the worst that could happen?

I really think you need to bring her out to empty parking lots a couple of more times.
I'm too cheap to be moving over to the TSX after only 2 1/2 year w/ the CL. It's going to cost me ALOT more to get into a TSX. You got rid of the CL when it still had some value, so you've been lucky so far. I might have to ride this out a little longer.
But I do have to admit that the TSX has interested me for awhile now. I'm still hung up on the RWD thing, so the new Mustang, and G35c are on my list too. I'm not going to do anything at least till I come off warrenty, but will probably look at doing something before my car hits 75K miles (the limit that acura will certify a used acura).

the best thing to do is go out in a big parking lot and have her start from a dead stop with only using the clutch NO gas! Once she learns the concept and feel of letting the clutch out and how it grabs then upgrade to giving it some gas. that will come easy once she learns to let out the clutch with out gas

Some people just don't get it. It's not her fault, but she just doesn't get it. Very intelligent, but I really don't think she was born to drive a manual transmission.
I'll keep trying.

I agree...to keep trying! If she has the drive to learn, she will and I am very proud of you for trying to teach her, instead of just blowing her off...
And I can tell you that when were kids, my Mom tried to drive my Dad's TR-6, bucking and all, and my Dad was just pleased at her effort...
Time+Prayer=Results!

She never got really good at it, but she did buy two stick shift cars before going back to a slushbox recently.

Let her watch you and how you shift and when you shift. Let her sit in the back seat and watch rpms speed and such and listen to the car, then take her and teach her how to get going from 1st, the rest should come naturally. I'd be woried about her downshifting to the wrong gear though.

Well, I see a problem in Scrib's situation. The problem is that the wife always has another car (AT) to drive. So in the back of her mind, she would always think that if she can't learn MT, she can always just drive her AT car. So there's really no motivation for her to learn. Yeah...she said she's interested in learning, but IMO that's just to keep Scrib happy. Why did I say that? Because that was what happened with me and my wife 8 years ago. At the time, she was still my gf. She told me she wanted to learn MT. So I taught her in my 3rd gen Prelude. She couldn't handle it, and I gave up on teaching her. When we got engaged, we were thinking about a 4-dr. (I had my Prelude, and she had her Civic coupe) in the family. We ended up trading her automatic Civic coupe for the Integra GS-R sedan (5MT). So now, she was forced to learn MT because if she didn't, she would have no car to drive.
Now the teaching part. Never teach a MT noob on the public road. Take him/her to a big empty parking lot, preferably with a slight incline. And just teach him/her the start and nothing else. The hardest part in MT is the start. Once the person gets the hang of the start, shifting becomes very easy. The way I've been teaching is to start on a slight incline. With the e-brake engaged, rev to about 2000 rpm and stay at this rpm. Then slowly release the clutch (of course, it has to be in 1st gear) till the car starts to jerk forward (the car won't move due to the e-brake). Then release the e-brake and continue to completely release the clutch and give it a little more gas. Then stop, repeat the same thing till the person is comfortable. The next step is to start without the e-brake on the same incline. By now, the person "should" know a bit on the engaging point. Let him/her practice more before taking him/her out to the road. This is the same method I used to teach my sister and my wife. Just be patient.

It took me awhile to teach the girlfriend how to drive a manual but luckily she did it in the extra beater and we did it in empty parking lots. I see a Boxster or 911 targa in her future so it would give us more options than just the tiptronic.
Good luck dude, keep trying!!

lol, seems she doesn't care but doesn't want to tell you because you'll give up something you really like. It's not rocket science and there isn't anything to get. You're wife loves you, keep your car and be happy

Don't do it scrib! The G coupe is too beautiful a car man! While I like the TSX myself (thanks to rmpage and virtualbong) I would not trade a G35c for a TSX auto.
You can live with one auto and one MT in the family. Whenever you go out together, someplace secluded for example, just make sure you take the Murano. If you are afraid of that 1 in a million chance that she need to drive the G, just decrease the chances by using her car in those "likely" scenarios. If you are driving cross country, take the Murano. If you are driving locally take the G. She has the car she loves so stick to the car you love (I know you like the TSX, but we all know you love the G!).
