if i were you.

Put it in a fund to grow...then wait ...patiently...for yes..a jap car.

The all new toyota supra. one version will have a revamped 4.3 V8 outta the GS 430 etc....you can do you research.

just a thought.

Ps- i dont buy domestic either, but if i did...and were you....i would get GTO...and convert it to a Holden Manero..

Best wishes on your quest to find the impossible car. The Wall Street Journal says that a BMW 325xi wagon can be easily loaded up to near $50K. I should play with Edmunds to see if that's really possible.

V8? Pontiac GTO? BOOM done.

Go drive one and you might change your mind on that statement…..I DID.

You can get a loaded Z51 6-Speed for just under 50-large and have 95% of the performance that a 70K Z06 will get you.

Bold statment there.

So the Z06 is only 5% better than your car Shawn?

1998 Porsche 993 C2S... Rare car, still holds about 1/2 it's value after almost 10 years, last of the aircooled 911's... Might be tough to find a concours condition S for $50K, but there are alot of nice drivers out there for under that price... (TT would be over 50K, and I probably wouldn't want one anyways).

C6 vette would be another option...

C6 Vette hands down.

I'll take the brand new car that performs better than every used/new car listed
and have the warranty to back it up.

For the money, I would get a C5 Z06. Saves you about $15-20k. Unless you have to have the projectors, and smaller interior.

1. Sell my CL-S for $20K

So that leaves me with about 70K..

I would get a GS430, M45, Used M5, or Aston Martin DB7

What money left over... use for mods

Side note:

Greenie.....I can't stop looking at that 993 There are very few used cars I would buy and the 993 is at the top of the list of cars I would buy.

It's a weird color too... (I think it's arena red, but the color looks darker in that pic). First C2S I found when I googled...

More 993 eyecandy here: http://gallery.rennlist.com/wallpaper/993

Note on your sidenote... I listed the C6 as another option I'd pick

Since I don't have 50K to blow on toys, I'll probably end up with a older (early 70's or 80's 911 or maybe an early C5 vette) one of these days... I turn 40 this year, so a mid life sportscar is in my future

Someone over on the one Vette Forum ran the performance numbers and it wasn’t really that huge of a difference.
Sure if you’re racing on a track a 10th of a second is everything, but in the real world on the street is that worth 20 grand to you?
Plus you can’t get a removable top or vert model in the Z06.
You’re giving up certain luxury’s that are nice on a daily driver just to tweak the track numbers a bit.

Don't get me wrong....I certainly wouldn’t kick a Z06 out of my garage if one was there, but I’m quite happy with my decision.

400HP C6 > 405HP C5

Smaller interior

Have you compared the two.
I don’t know if it’s smaller, but the C6 interior alone is worth the upgrade from the C5.

Speaking of C6's.. I go out to lunch, and there is a C6 vette 'vert in the COO's parking spot... His M3 is in for service, so they gave him the 'vert for a loaner

Must be nice.... I got a Toyota Echo for a loaner last time I brought my CL in for service

Who would buy a CL for 20K? You'll be lucky if you get like 13K

It’s not going to be 50K or 80K, but I think somewhere in the 60-70K range depending on options.
That’s Z06 range so I wonder how it will compare.

I have heard it will start mid to upper 50's and max out (coupe) around the upper 60's.

There is no way that BMW will price the M3 close to the M5.

Since some of you are talking about Vette's what about the Caddie XLR? I've seen a few for as low as $47k.

Or perhaps the Jaguar XKR?

You mentioned you'd consider a 4 door. I couldn't recommend the CTS-V high enough. It's a fantastic car. Its brutally fast, sounds amazing, handles brilliantly and is practical enough to carry 5 in comfort. There's a lot to be said for practicality. I liked my CL-S a lot, but I love this car.
