If you've never driven in NYC, you might want to park in NJ..take the train and then walk, bus, or subway over to the Center....if you're comfortable in NYC though you can pretty much park in any garage/lot. That garage is only a recomendation because they have a free shuttle.

I'm not comfortable with NYC, but why is that I want to park in NJ? Because of driving difficulty? or of the theft? I know it's hard to drive without knowing the direction well, but I thought it couldn't be that hard with my navi. Just follow the navi to the lot, and take the shuttle. Could it be hard?

Friends are going tomorrow.....I can't, the M3 is being taken via fletbed to the bodyshop after being destroyed in a car accident last Sunday.

Don't ask, just happy my buddy didn't get hurt.

Should be a good show though, I usually don't go because of the crowds.

I don't have navi so I couldn't tell you how accurate it will be.

I figured you would be driving from VA so I assumes NJ would be the best choice...closest you can get without the craziness of NYC traffic patterns. I'm always more comfortable on foot in NYC just because parking can cost more than a meal out with the wife

Besides the NYC subway is an experience everyone should have just once

Special Event rates are like 40 dollars to park for the day. It gets less the further away you go, but not a whole lot.

Park in Jersey and take the ferry over, it'll be cheaper most likely.

Thanks guys. $40 is a lot for just parking. So where in Jersey should I park? bus station? subway station? I don't know what to put in navi tomorrow. : (

Take the ferry across.

Park at the ferry terminal in Weehawken
NY Waterway
Pershing Road,
Weehawken, NJ 0708

Then take the ferry over. Its a one block walk from the terminal on the other side to the Javits Center.

If your going with a bunh of people it will be cheaper to just park in the city though. It costs like 10-11 bucks round-trip on the ferry and 7 for parking so its not exactly cheap either, but its a lot less than in the city.

don't drive in.

every year it's a cluster fuck of a mess around the javits. by 12pm all the lots will be full and you'll be circling like vultures trying to find parking.

I was lucky enough to be back in NY about seven years ago when the car show was going on. It was my first big show and I had a great time. I've been trying to plan it out so I would be back in NY when it comes around, but unfortunately that hasnt happened yet.

Thanks to mclarenf3387, the ferry was really quicker than I expected. Wow, it was great show and it was my first time going to the auto show, too. There weren't really sick cars, but I didn't expect any anyways in this one. I loved to check out all the cars that I wanted to see in person (such as RDX, MDX, Sky Redline) and all I gotta say is they're just totally different from the pics. I'm sure someone will or already had posted pics, but I'll share mine as well asap.

we didn't take the ferry, but overall we didn't have too much of a problem. We've driven through NY before and we were susprised. Maybe we just got lucky

This was my first time to the NY Auto Show..my favorites included the new Saab concept - Aero X, the Evo X, the new RDX, and of course, the McLaren-Mercedes SLR...

pics by albeik and myself can be seen here:

Enjoy!!

Parking Suggestions

For those who drove to the auto show... Could you give any suggestions on where to park and how much$

I wanted it to be closer, as it would be easier to take the stroller& infant seat for my 5month old.

Parking at the Javitts Center (or anywhere near there) will be very costly. I've heard anywhere from $50-$60.

What I do is park over at Weehawken and then take the ferry over, where you'll walk approximately 1 block to the show. Parking is $9, the round trip ferry tickets are roughly $12, entry into the show is $15 (I think, don't remember).

You can find directions using mapquest, the address for the NY Waterway is on the links in the main NY auto show site.

wow you took lots of pictures. I go on that Jeep ride every year. This year, strangely enough, the wait was not so long. As far as I've been going (5 years now, I think), the line for that thing has always been close to an hour. I think I might go this Friday again. This years show felt so much bigger than last year, and I didn't get to sit in all the vehicles that I wanted to, due to the crowd. I always tell myself not to go on opening day because of the crowd, but I couldn't wait.

Yea I thought it'd be nice to let everyone get a look since most people can't make it. The crowd when I went (saturday) was pretty big, so I couldn't get shots of all the cars I wanted either, but I did my best.
