You would figure that domestic and foreign are in the same boat, but it doesnt really seem like the used prices are much better for the most part.
i was looking at the usual landcruiser/4runner/mdx/sequoia/lx470 and the prices really don't seem to be that cheap except on some sequoia's

I was wondering the same thing. My buddy told me his Mother-in-law just bought a brand new loaded suburban for $18K. i've checked a few dealers and saw nothing close to that.

I'm trying to buy a small pickup , probably a Nissan. The deals aren't that great. It seems like the best deals were last month and even better in august.

Supposedly Toyota is going to offer 0% on 11 models...many of them trucks and SUVs...

AND youve hit year end clearance time....Wait til the end of the month...like the very last day and go in near closing time...and strike, you'll make a very good deal.

I don't believe that. Maybe it's just wishful thinking because I still owe a buttload on my wife's 07 Tahoe.

you hear all these stories of people getting only pennies for their suv trades and i am just wondering why the used prices aren't really reflecting that?

When's this supposed to happen Sarlacc? (the Toyota thing) . I am thinking of leasing for several reasons but I am just trying to get into a decently equipped small truck for as cheap as possible. 0% may change my mind though. I need a cheap third vehicle to keep the miles off my M3.

its because their sales...like all automakers have been dismal lately.

Of course, thats what happens when the economy takes a dump.

Yeah, I don't see the SUV deals as great either. I would like to get a GMC Arcadia for the wife but despite the fact the SUVs are unpopular and hard to sell now they still want pretty much top dollar for it.

The Arcadia is a "cross-over" and not the body-on-frame truck-based SUVs with prices that have dropped like rocks. Take a look at your local paper for the advertised Chevy and GM deals.

the last day of the month also lands on a friday... could've been better if it had been middle of the week... but NOT a lot of people are going to be car shopping the last day of this month for a couple reasons... it's Halloween... people are either taking their kids out for trick or treating... or going to costume parties... It's ONE less weekend for the dealerships to make/catch up in sales... if it's raining? EVEN BETTER (for the buyers)... good luck!

Regarding cheap SUV's, maybe you should try domestic? The Yukon, Tahoe, Escalade, Navigator, Durango...import manufacturers, including Toyota, aren't hurtin' as bad as Ford or GM.

I just saw in the Sports section of the LA Times that there are ads for a Touareg at $17K below MSRP, Durangos for $26K (a little over $10K below MSRP), and a Murano for about $23K around the LA metro area.

If I had the cash and needed a car, now is a great time to go shopping. There are some really low prices out there.

If I had the cash, I would most definitely go get a car right now...Don't want to take out any loans though..

I see 04 MDX's for low to mid teens! That is cheap! The sequoia's are pretty cheap. Landcruiser and LX470 will never drop; those vehicles hold value extremely well due to popularity over seas. They get shipped to pretty much every country which is why a 00 with 180K is worth almost as much as one with 100K miles on it....

I'd love me a LX470. A good replacement is the QX56..You can get 06's for around 20K with decent mileage.

Simple, the price people are getting reflects the fact that the dealer will have the SUV sit on their lot for a long time, not that they will have to sell it for less. There are no incentives to sell used cars like there are to sell new ones; the manufacturer is backing all of the big discounts you see on new cars, so the dealer is still making money when they sell it for that low price. They'll sit on the used ones until the market turns around, sell them for book value, and make a fortune.

As for the 0% on Toyotas, I saw the ad about ten times during football yesterday.

A local Nissan Dealer in MA is offering "buy a Titan at MSRP and get a free 2 year lease on a Sentra". It's an intersting promotion as you get one big V8 gas pig for hauling cargo and a small 4 banger for the daily commute. I would guess that the total cost on the Sentra lease is about 10-12K. They are desperate to get the new gas pigs off the property. I'm not sure how successful the promotion was.

To find a good deal on a used SUV I think you need to find someone who was going to trade in at the dealer, didn't like the trade number and decided to sell privately. Dealers will still try to hold the money on a used one unless they are desperate to get it off the lot.

I was surprised to see a Toyota commercial last night offering 0% financing. Didn't catch when the offer ends, though.

I think part of it too it that dealers are not advertising low used prices in the attempt to make a larger margin off their used inventory as people don't really know what there worth. You constantly hear about the great deals out there but never see them because people negociate price so it's hard to get an accurate portrait of what the actual selling prices are. Don't be afraid to offer 5k lower than what they are asking on a large SUV/Truck because you are probably in at the right level.

whether they make that ford in america or mexico does not make a difference. The quality is still poor.

i would still look for a japan made toyota than a us made one. poorer quality
