Talking So I broke down...and bought this...

2007 Dodge Caliber R/T as the new family car. Not bad considering it came with everything my teh wife needs. I'm at work now, thought I'd share, and post pics when I get home.

Do a test drive and give your impressions. It might be because I've driven the lower version, the SXT,but I did not like it AT ALL. May be the RT is different. I felt that my mom's honda odyssey pulled stronger lol

This is her car, like I said it's loaded, It has chrome 18" rim, Sirius Satalite radio, 2.4 I4 172hp (it's peppy for what it is), a CTV II 6 speed auto tranny, and I can go on but you guys pretty much get the idea.

and no those aren't our kids, we were babysitting the day we bought the car.

I guess it could be. It's a cooled storage compartment for water bottles and such.

I'm not much on any Dodge vehicle (except the viper of course), so I'm not really feeling the car, but congrats on the purchase and hope you enjoy it. I will admit, it does have a few unique features though.

I guess the important thing is that teh wife likes it...

The caliber is a pretty decent car for the price, but I thought you were trying to get her into a honda/acura vehicle ??

Teh wife likes DaimlerChrysler vehicles. She first wanted a Jeep, but the Jeep was too expensive for my taste, so I talked her into the Caliber because the Jeep Compass is built off of the same platform. It's basically the same car with a Dodge name. She didn't want Honda/Acura .

The lil "wine cooler" box is called the ChillZone. You can fit any 20oz beverage to your liking and keeps it cool if you have the AC on.

hahaa...I guess I never let the news out that I have a new wife...lol...
I traded the old one in...

I know it looks kinda plasticky (is that a word?), but it drives a hell of lot nicer than my car ever would. I'm not saying teh Ack is less of a car though, I'll always love my CL.

I still can't believe how quiet the damn thing is.

The Mazda 3 5dr is much smaller. I owned one and pulled up next to a Caliber at a light. The Dodge is taller, wider, and longer.

But I agree that it's probably the better vehicle

hmm i had a fully loaded caliber as a rental a couple months ago, it was awful pickup sucked, braking sucked and i could not get the car to go pass 95, it would just shake like crazy and i got it from enterprise with 800 miles so it was pretty much brand new. But the wife digs it so you can't complain

I would hope the Odyssey with 240+ horses pulls on a 170hp car.

The R/T is sweet looking.

I got to rent a dodge Nitro a few weeks ago. It was a much better car than I was expecting. Although it had almost no road feel, and was a big sluggish. I took it through some twisties, which was kinda hard, and I felt like I was going to turn the wheel and nothing would happen and plunge straight off the a cliff. But it was still fun, and had a prescence unlike most cars on the road. I also rented a Monte Carlo, which started flashing the engine light at me, and a ford taurus, which felt like it was about to fall apart and only had 20k miles on it (but I guess that's a lot for a rental car on a tiny island (molokai). The nitro was definitely the best of that bunch.

whenever I see calibers I always just assume they are rental cars around here. I thought that the MSRP of the R/T was around what you got it for or maybe even a little less (than the 21k). I guess there's all the other costs and with ALL the options that I guess could make it go for 27k OTD. I couldn't imagine paying 27k for a caliber. Glad you got a deal.

Teh wife wanted to put the old air freshner in the new car, I've yet to put a new bottle in it because I still love the new car smell.

I would assume that if you were to drive a rental car...somethings going to be wrong with it. Even though it said 800 miles, I can tell you that the car was probably smashed into the ground before you picked it up.

I've already mashed on the gas a few times and the car can get up and go just fine.

So as long as the wife likes it ... and it doesn't break down on you. That's all that really matters, right? Since I live in Big3 (domestic) country ... domestics are a dime a dozen here. Congrats on the new car. Just make sure the wife keeps the car as clean as the day she bought it! LOL ...
