Interior looks nice, still hate the outside. How is the transmission?

Transmission is pretty good, takes about 500 miles for it start learning your driving habits. So, I'll have a better opinion after that.

Right now it does a quick shift from 1>2>3 that can be annoying.

But with the gearing of the 9 spd I had the car in 3rd going 80mph and it was barely over 4k rpm. Its got passing power in spades. And nice pick up when you want it.

Its also got this nice little growl...I've heard audio of one guy who cut out his resonators and it sounded sick....doubt the wife would let me do that.

2 things that are immediately noticeable vs the highlander.

The doors make a solid WHUMP when closing...that smiling inducing sound of quality. The highlander made that paper thin sounding noise when closing the doors. Always felt cheap to me.

The interior noise level is MUCH quieter in the Cherokee. It wasn't terrible in the highlander but there was definitely road noise that felt louder than we originally got that car. Like...always making sure the windows were closed noise.

Awesome... congrats!! My wife has been eyeing the new Grand Cherokee for a while... but I think she loves her car too much to give it up.

And holy crap the boys are getting big...

...and yea, ventilated seats are in SoCal.

In my GC, in hot weather, if the climate control is left on on shut down, when using remote start, the climate control goes to full cooling, and the ventilated seats kick on automatically.

I love remote starting it at distance from the car, then get in to a car that is already cooling the inside of the vehicle, and my @ss & back.

same goes with the remote start on this.

we can also sync the memory seats to keys fobs which i haven't doesn't yet.

this thing even has the comfort access where the seat backs out when you turn off the car.

the limited trim is pretty damn pimped out for a small suv.

If I were going to drive compact SUV, I would have gotten this. It's clearly a class above when it comes to the interior. Obviously I drive an Acura so I'm not particularly concerned about the "controversial" exterior look.

my first impressions from your pics were the same as many others...the front is a little ugly but the interior looked nice. then i saw two of them this morning while walking to the train station. the front did not bother me one bit. dunno if it was the cloudy overcast day or the led drls or what not but i was not repulsed as i thought i would be. i was more like

Those features are pretty cool.
Use 'em all the time.

Makes you @ Toyota, eh?

When you see the Cherokee in person, you really appreciate how well the exterior is designed. She may not photograph all that well, but in person, it's quite nice.

...again, hence why they are selling them in droves.

The Toyota was a great car, I have no regrets having had it (unlike the Prius) well, I don't regret the Prius, I just grew to hate it.

My wife ended up really loving the Highlander, even yesterday when she got home she said she kinda missed it. We did definitely did give up the convenience of size. It was a big, useful, dependable, and comfortable vehicle. And we STOLE it from the dealer for a heck of a price.

That said, everyone here knows my feelings on Chryco and the turn around they've made in the last 5 years. And I was never under the impression that Toyota was the end all be all of quality...Where they may once have been top, they are just another player on an increasingly level playing field. And in many ways they have fallen behind. And even my wife admits that the jeep is way more fun to drive.

The new highlander is pretty damn nice. But it wasn't in our price range and the mpg just sucks for the time being. And I had already fallen in love with the Cherokee.

My Traverse LTZ does this too when I open the door. It's almost like the swing seats in late 50's Chrysler vehicles.

What I find interesting here is that we have a member who is pretty much OG (joined in 2002) and his garage is now all domestic cars...or, non-Honda.

...and here we are, in an Acura forum. How times are so different now...

It's great that Sarlacc found a car he likes and good for his family...but, it is unfortunate that Honda/Acura has nothing for his preferences. Is it a sign of how far Honda has fallen...?

Sorry for the segue.

I had a huge typed out reply regarding my interests and why Honda/Acura just have nothing that appeal to me or my wife.

Then I deleted it all and remembered...you don't have any Honda/Acuras in your garage either

I'll buy a Honda/Acura when they release a f*cking V8.

I'm no badge whore.

I've owned a car under a different badge for nearly every car I've owned since I had a Honda/Acura vehicles in the garage.

(at one time I had a honda car, Acura, and a honda motorcycle all in the same garage).

Back then they built high quality, reliable, good looking, fun to drive machines.

Now, they miss the mark on pretty much all the categories above.

Hence, why there is no reason for me to return to Honda.

If they ever do get their back together, I'll look at them like I do other brands. As for now, they are off the radar.

Too many better, more exciting products from other makes that long for my $$$$$$

I love these things. I've sat in one and it really feels more premium than the price would suggest. Congrats man....your wife will grow to forget the Highlander.

I find this paradigm shift so interesting on the forum also. American automakers are pulling their heads out of their asses and making some damn good cars.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...I would have puked if someone told me a few years ago that my Acura's replacement would be a Ford.
