OK...Thanks everyone. I'll try and answer some of the questions if I remember them all.
1) no injuries. I was a little stiff in the shoulders the 2nd day...but nothing like when I was in a wreck 12 years ago and I had whiplash.
The boys had some seat belt rash that scabbed up on the shoulder/necks. The Sheriff was shocked at how tight I had their seats locked in. He said he couldn't move them at all, a good thing.
2) I was going about 45mph, but I had taken my foot off the gas and was getting ready to slow down as I was coming to an intersection when I was going to make a left. Posted speed limit on that road is 45mph.
3) I wasn't mad, surprising enough. First thought through my head pre-crash was "The kids" and first thing after was "the kids" The guy wasn't trying to be malicious, and while he was still in his car right after the hit, I opened my door and he said "Are you OK?" When I said yes but I had to check on my kids, he got out and came over...And I think he felt like utter shit.
4) My insurance is USAA...they have been great so far. They will reimburse me for new car seats. Just have to buy them and turn in the receipt. The price they have quoted of my car was a little higher than I was expected...and I still have to submit receipts and everything for my mods to see what they give me for those.
5) Ticketing...CA is a no fault state. Because there were no injuries the police would not even file a report. Lazy BS I know...but thats they do it here. Of course that makes it a no determination on fault...which leads us to:
6) Insurance is still trying to determine liability...which I think is BS. My adjuster thinks it will end up 90/10 saying the argument is where I hit him I maybe should have had time to avoid...which, again, is BS. There was a witness, who faulted him for making the left, but also says she thinks I was going too fast (sports car MUST have been speeding.../sarcasm) and she was an adjuster blah blah blah. She was trying to act like a forensic specialist. I mentioned everything she said to USAA.
If its 90/10 it just means I pay 10% of my deductible...no biggie. I only have to worry if they try to pin 50% or more on me which I think would be utterly ridiculous. My adjuster said anything over 10% would be unacceptable to her.

I drove one...and I liked it a lot. Even the V6 was surprisingly smooth and punchy.
But I can't do a sedan. Going to get rid of my 97 beater JGC (Wife doesn't like to drive it)
So, I need a vehicle that can carry the kids and my camera gear. I think I've already narrowed down what I want...and while the wife isn't 100% happy about it, I think I'll be able to get it...Ill just have to make it up to her for a few weeks...

But I have to figure this out...as I have the CA legacy Black plates ordered...so I need to call the DMV and figure out how to either cancel my order and get my money back or transfer the plates to whatever car I get next.

Sorry to read about your misfortune. Was expecting to see something else. But as everyone has stated already, the most important thing is that you and your family were able to walk away safely.
Curious what you have planned for your next car.
Plates normally stay with the car, but since you have a personalized plate (i.e. Specialty Plate) it stays with you/the owner. You just need to find out what the procedure is to transferred it to your new car. I'm sure the dealer will know what needs to be done though.

In general, CA license plates are not surrendered to the DMV. They stay with the vehicle when it is bought or sold.
If you have a specialty license plate, it stays with you (the "plate-holder") to be transferred to your next car if you choose to do so. Exceptions occur only with certain plates in the case of death, such as with disability license plates.
NOTE: If you have a standard plate but then choose to apply for a specialty license plate, you will exchange your standard plate when you pick up your specialty plate from the DMV.

Probably best to check with L.A. Councilman Mike Bonin's office-- his field reps for the area seem to know Del Rey, MDR and Playa Vista pretty well, and Jefferson is a major thoroughfare.

At this point does it even mean anything if it was removed by the city? Or even if was illegally removed by someone and never replaced?
#56
Even if it doesn't do anything to help with your situation, if it was illegally or mistakenly removed, it could potentially save someone from having this happen to them if a No Left Turn sign is put back.

I knew someone would mention that eventually. Nah, Sarlacc's a Mopar guy. I could see him rocking a Magnum R/T or SRT8, though.
Though if he wanted to join the GM crowd.....

My jaw dropped when I saw those pictures. Not just because of the damage, but because of the how I know you made that car "yours", and now years of thought, time and money are down the drain because of an inattentive driver.

If the sign were illegally removed, the pickup driver might be held responsible for making an illegal left turn if the sign was recently removed or he knew the sign had been there. However, it would be easier for the insurers to just say he failed to yield and caused the accident: the insurers would not have to look for the history of the missing "no left turn" sign.
I don't think you'll have a liability problem.

So sorry to see that David but so so glad everyone is ok. I don't have kids but can't imagine how you felt at the moment of impact, knowing you have them in the backseat.
Sorry to see the car go but like everyone else said, it can be replaced. Good luck with your minivan search

I drove a 91 Jeep Cherokee for a few months. One of the worst cars I've ever driven for a daily commute. If the GC is anything like the one I drove, I'm sure the Mrs' will forget that she was ever mad at you once she gets behind the wheel of the new ride. Heck, you might have a tough time getting the keys back if it's the ride I'm thinking of. Best of luck with getting full reimbursement.. and might I add.. I can't believe the boys are so big!
