Cool This should be fun: turn my Accord into a cool car!

I need advice!!! Hubby and I are thinking of turning our "beautiful but stock" 2001 EX-V6 Accord into manual since it was only available in automatic at the time. Instead of buying a new car and making huge payments, we thought we'd do some work on the 'cord and make it fun to drive so we're not fighting over who gets to drive the TSX.

So here it is guys: what needs to be done??? I know it's a big project, but we love the look of the car and we've taken good care of her. We don't mind the engine it has, but I'm thinking there probably wouldn't be a manual trans that would go with it, so I'm guessing we'd need an engine swap. Am I right here? I'm sure it's possible, but how??!! We would ideally like to stay around $5-6K. Is that do-able????

I leave it to the experts...

you want to spend $5000-$6000 dollars to put a manual into your accord yet you say you dont want to make huge payments...? kind of contradicting, dont you think?

This has been done on Accords. A J32A2 is swapped into the car along with the 6-speed transmission.

Unless you're doing the work by yourself in your garage expect to pay a lot more than $6,000.

Trade in the Accord and put $6,000 down on another TSX if that's the reason you want to swap a transmission into the Accord.

No, we'd have that in cash. He's looking at a Mazda speed3. We'd be talking $300+ per month payments and would be paying interest. The mods we can do a little at a time, as well.

Yes, we would be doing most in the garage. Hubby knows engines, dad is a mechanic and I know enough to be dangerous. Hehe..

We don't want another TSX..love the Accord..just want it in MT

Whoa Sara haven't seen you on AZ in awhile.

While you're at, maybe you could turn it into a 6MT

you might want to pm Sirsig and see about what you can do to your accord in that price range engine/transmission wise and what would be your best bet.

I'd just sell the 01 and get a 6sp 03.

I see the reasoning behind doing the mods yourself, but if you do it a little at a time, that pretty much means you're without a car to drive for months. It's a huge proceedure and you won't be able to drive it once you start yanking things out of it.

I know this, guys. We have several cars. This one doesn't get driven much since it's auto. As for a new Accord, we like the body style we have...not my point at all...

I know all the pros and cons. I was asking where to start with ideas. Engine swap? With what car? TL? CL? Parts? Cost ideas?

Any ideas will help us make a decision on if we want to take this on or buy a new car. We honestly both really want to keep the Accord, so lay it on me. What do we have to do...

I just cant see this being worth the time/money/hassle to bastard up a perfectly nice 01 Accord. Why not just take the money and buy a "fun" car that already has a manual transmission? But by all means do what you like.

Okay, here's what you have to do:

1) Check out this link: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2449807/4 There's your 2001 Accord w/ a 2003 CL-S 3.2 6sp. swap.

2) Get in touch with SIRSIG. He has this exact swap (plus a CT supercharger on top of it). I'm sure he can give you the best advice/answers that you're looking for.

3) Let us know how it goes and what kind of $$$/time you're looking to put into this swap. Good luck!

Trade in the Accord and get a 03 CLS 6spd...

If you shop around you'll probably could get into one for 15K and if you don't have too many miles on the Accord, should be able to get into it for $5-6k out of pocket.

Mr. Steve will sell you his for 14k, and I'll take 16K for mine

Well, SINCE THEY LIKE THE BODY STYLE THEY HAVE NOW, I don't think they would be interested in either of your CL's for sale, but that was a great advertisement you just put in there

Do what other people said and talk to SIRSIG with any questions you have about what you will need and approximate cost and difficulty level with the people you will have available to help you. I know joe80055 is working on putting that motor and tranny in his 2G TL and one of the mods fsttyms1 did it a while ago. They may be able to answer questions as well, but SIRSIG will be more helpful since he did the swap into the same vehicle as yours.

If I were you I would save money to buy a real sports car or....

Swap in H22 motor with a manual transmission and build that ... fun but slow because the accord is so heavy.

Nothing a GT4080 turbocharger can't fix

I was joking about Steve's and my CL... neither are for sale, but I just wanted to point out that getting into a V6 6mt honda product wouldn't be that expensive.

Kris (fsttyms1) did his for around $5-6K IIRC, but he did all the parts scrounging, installation, and troubleshooting himself... I don't know if Sara is going to do the same.

I haven't heard much about Joe's installation since he moved down to FL for school (and yeah, I've meet Joe in person)...

Not everyone is as technically inclined as Kris, Joe and SIRSIG.... So I'm just offering another option...

I've never been a big fan of swaps... If you want a 6mt, buy a 6mt. It might not be that much of an adventure to get there, but it sure is a heck lot easier
