Shop took my friend's car for a joyride...
My friend and fraternity little brother Scott has an SVT Contour. It's turbocharged with a really nice suspension setup and everything. An all-around really cool car. Like the lot of us, he's a big car guy and really takes care of her.
However, he had an exhaust leak on the flex pipe so he took it into a shop two Fridays ago to get it fixed. They told him it'll be ready the next Friday (last Friday). Imagine that! A week to fix an exhaust leak. Geez.
Well, he called them up on Thursday to confirm and they hadn't even gotten started on it. Since he rented a car for the week, he absolutely needed the car back on Friday. So he told them to get it done Friday morning and he'll be there in the afternoon.
He went in the next day, and he was waiting in the lobby. While he's waiting, what does he hear? One of the guys that works there was talking shit about him to his coworker about how Scott was being rude and cocky (he's one of the nicest kids I've ever met, and one of the major reasons I picked him as my little brother). Then he said, "But it's cool. I got even, because I took his car out."
Long story short, his clutch is shot, he's got the CEL on, stereo speakers are blown, and they left grease all over the seat. And they never even got started on the exhaust leak problem!
Here's the link to the story he posted on the Contour forums. The shop's name is Mandalay Automotive in Troy, Michigan. Avoid them at all costs, and please spread the word. This kind of behavior is absolutely unacceptable and uncalled for.

Here's a few pictures of his car, too.

He obviously let 'em have it on the spot. He yelled at them for like half an hour, then left. He's taking them to court for all the damages.

I doubt anything can be done to you for warning others about vehicle abuse by a place of business.
Also, it's a forum. You're entitled to your opinion.

Not from personal experience or anything

Glad to hear your friend didn't throw punches, that could have messed up his whole case. Hope everything goes his way in court.
And an exhaust leak takes no more than an hour to do/fix. Don't know why your friend willing left his car there for a week, especially with those mods.

He was busy with school, and the engine bay is really tight. It's not your usual exhaust leak, I suppose.

Damn, I would never leave my car with someone whom I didnt trust 100%. I always write down the odometer when I drop it off and make a point to let them know that. I have gone to the trouble of having them walk with me around the car and inspect the F out of it. I dont take chances anymore, people are just too stupid and dickheaded to trust.
I have a good relationship with Greg at Livernois Motorsports in Dearborn, MI. I havent seen him in while, but he used to own his own shop (Detroit Speedworks) and they merged with Livernois. If he has to get anymore performance work done I'd suggest them. They work on a ton of hgh hp & specialty cars (they do actual prototyping & shit for Ford), so they know how to treat a nice car.
Keep us updated on it.

He's looking to do a racing tranny swap, engine swap for a built 3.0L, LSD and a host of other stuff.
And I'll definitely keep you guys posted on what happens. He's going to try to get a hold of the owner this week and he'll probably go from there.

I have never had an exhaust leak not fixed on the spot. Any exhaust shop it would only take the time to put the car on the lift to fix any kind of problem. Sucks for him though if he doesn't get everything fixed by them.

That said, there is always feedback on the board regarding dealerships, and i've never seen anyone get "in trouble" for posting an experience or bad recommendation
BTW, sucks for your friend, but make sure he does not post too much info on the internet if he's planning to take the case to court....
