SCCA Auto-X @ Lone Star Park
Went out to Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas to spectate some Auto-X'ing this morning. Nothing to special in the pics, it was my first time even attending one...so I didn't really know what to look for.
I need to see what class I can get my car in and get in on this! The Miatas stole the show, hands down. National Champ, Chris Robbins (Genghis Grill NC) was 7 seconds ahead of 2nd place on his first run of the day...it was mind blowing. Maybe next time I'll have some in car footage of me tip-toeing around the course. It really made me appreciate what "Auto-x" is. Anyone can get on a road course track and put up some good times, but this is just in a whole different ball game.
I didn't feel like going through all the hassle of editing and making all my pics look like an episode of Top Gear with a giant logo of my name on the bottom 3/4 of each picture, so ya'll are stuck with the originals.

I for one, appreciate the unedited pics.
Looks like it was a fun time for everybody, racers and spectators. Some of those guys are serious

Yep, Auto-Xing is super fun and super challenging...
But dont discount running a road...a road operates under the same basic driving principles as auto-X.
Both are equally fun and challenging in their own ways. And both are suited to different types of cars.
I haven't run my Challenger in AutoX yet...but its not ideally suited for such competition either. Miatas, Corvettes, STis, and EVOs, Elise/Exiges are usually the big dogs at the AutoX events. Their small wheel bases are much better suited for the technical turns and chicanes on an autoX course.

Jordan,
Did my first one in Feb. Planning on doing more this year at the TMS bus lot, with either the BMW or S2000 clubs.
They are a blast, and you should certainly sign up. The worst thing that happens is you hit a cone or spin-embarrassing yes, damaging-no.
You have the tool in your Miata, pull Simon in and use it.

No kidding...The guy was talking about when he goes to different events he brings several different gear ratios with him and just swaps them out for what ever he is doing. The muffler was off a motorcycle and "is so loud, he has to roll the windows up on the freeway."
He was at this event doing some testing for when he takes it up Pikes Peak.
