Saw RSX and new 2003 Lexus ES300 in person!!!

I think I will have to get a digital camera this weekend. In the last two days I have seen brand new cars: Two production model RSX’s and a new ES300. And both times I did not have a camera.

ES300:
I saw what had to be the new 2003 Lexus ES300 today. I was going East on 190th st. in Torrance (The same street Lexus of America located on) and I saw two cars going in the opposite direction as me. I could tell immediately that this was not a car I have seen anywhere before, I initially thought that it was the new Infiniti that will compete with the GS300. So I make a quick u-turn and catch up to them. I am not absolutely sure that it was the new ES because the lettering and emblems on the car were all covered by masking tape. But I could defiantly make out the big L emblem on the trunk. Anyways the car definitely looks better that the current ES. To me it looks like an IS300 and a Chrysler sedan combined. Which is probably the exact crowd they were looking for.

RSX:
Yesterday I went to Payton Cramer Acura in Torrance for an oil change. Well as soon as I pull up two RSX’s pull out of the service center. I was wondering why this dealer had the RSX already, well apparently American Honda (also located in Torrance) took them there for some routine servicing. These are there demo cars that they let writers/critics drive. About 3 more months until the RSX shows up at the dealers for sale.

No, those look more like a GS, this was defiantly below the GS line.

From the side it kinda reminded me of a stretched IS300. The front end also was a little more angular.

If it was indeed the new ES300, wouldn't we have already seen it in the car shows or have pics on the net already?

I have read from several places that the Camry/ES300 will be redesigned for the 2003 model year. Which means they could be at dealers in less than a year.

http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/futur...0/page035.html

But I am not sure that what I saw was the next ES, but it was defiantly a new unknown Lexus and it has "Distributor" plates on it. Since there are already 4 Lexus sedans I couldn't imagine them adding a fifth. So my best guess is that it is the new ES.

True, but I also lost count of how many SUV's Toyota has released.

its gonna take quite some time for aftermarket parts to come out for that new iVtec engine, dont you think?

fbazakos,

I'm sure it will be some time.. I was thinking like in a couple years when Honduh decides to fix all the bugs with the first model.
I just have a feeling that the RSX will be very popular..

i think that honda totally killed the sports car market with the facelift of the civic and the invention of the rsx. you can't tell me that you wouldn't take an integra type R over the new rsx. its just the history that the integra has behind it as well as the way the car looks. the rsx looks more like the new civic then an integra. parts are going to cost so much too kuz they're gonna be brand new. why not just upgrade the integra engine to a Mugen Prelude engine or something that would be worth buying? think about the integra type R with a 2.2 L DOHC vtec engine in it. it would smoke every stock (that are left) civic on the market. feedback?

yeah, look how long we have to wait for stuff... but i'm sure demand will prevail, and win some attention from the aftermarket companies.
