Saw my first Lotus Elise on the road

Last night, driving through Georgetown during rush hour, I had a change to examine a new Lotus Elise up close on the road. That is one tiny-ass car and looks even smaller when driven behind a big old crown vic taxi.

It sounds SICK though. I wanna drive one of those on a track sometime.

Looks weird IMO, but I'd still love to own one.

I dunno if I'd want to own one...they're really small. They look even small than the Miata's. I'd be worried about getting killed in an accident of any sort.

It is a very aggressive looking car though. Even my gf, who was in the car with me at the time, said the Lotus was very striking.

My father keeps talking about selling his '67 Lotus Elite (1200 lb fiberglass body car-they only imported like 600 or something) and buying a new Elise. I wish he would do it.

If I would fit, I'd love one. My idea of fun...a 4-wheel motorcycle (in essence).

Although, I like the TVR 350s too.

I thought it's just the Toyota's 1.8L engine from the Celica GT-S?

Great car nevertheless..... this car's not about the power (although it flies), it's about the balance and handling, just like the TSX!

Yes, but in a car that weighs only 2000lbs that 1.8L 190HP engine is more than enough.

Power to weight ratio is on par with an M3. The lightweight really shines in braking and cornering performance though.

It is the Toyota engine, but a custom exhaust system developed by Lotus which gives the exhaust note a much more vicious demeanor.

someone brought theirs to a DC autox today, all I can say is

CG was the one you saw wine/tan colorered? someone bought theirs out w/ new tags and all on it. its not a SCCA legal car because its a 2005 model, but they did some test runs with it. A good driver who had never driven the car before was 2 sec. off the fastest of the day on street tires on his first run. Watching it go around the track was incredible, the thing is incredibly balanced, and ultra quick because it can put down all 190HP easily (unlike the overpowered Z06's that mop up everyone else but can't get traction). it hit the slalom faster than any car i've seen, absolutely 0 body roll and perfectly stable.

I saw the thing up close to, it honestly looks like an alien spaceship. Lots of weird curves, and the front look like the typical alien face with almond shaped eyes.

I'd buy an Elise but unfortunately I'd need two: one for each foot because that's all I could ever fit in them.

Really sweet car though.
