S60r - Your Thoughts?
What are your guys' thoughts and opinions on the S60r. I'm not too familiar with Volov, but I do like the S60r. The exterior is sexy and classy, and the interior is very nice except for the center console. I'm not sure if that alone would keep me from buying a car, but it might. Anyone have anything to say about them?

Hmm test drive it first, I heard many great things about the S60r. It looks ok not too aggressive but not too conservative. The interior is ok, but drive it and find out.

Unless you're driving in boost it feels kinda of flat. On boost its really fun (between 2-5RPMs.) Also, the CDV in the clutch is annoying. That would be the first mod if I got the car. Otherwise, its very nice. I just think there is nicer, better, faster out there.

It is a sleeper. I really like it. If you are planning to buy used, make sure you get a extended warranty.
I f you are planning on getting a new one, I would say, hold your breath. An overhaul is expected for the MY09 S60.

Uses turn signals in my
I think they are great, my friend who parked across from me in high school had one and its a beautiful sleeper. I read in a car magazine they do the 1/4 in 14.00. I unfortunately never got to ride in it though. Just don't pull up close on parking stops lol. He learned that one lesson right infront of me.

i'm a big fan of volvos and the s60r.
it is a sleeper. the exterior doesn't look too aggressive, but it's subtle. it looks very nice with the kit, and i like the wheels a lot.
the interior is very cool, in my opinion.
i've only driven the auto, and i agree that it felt a little flat at first. it took awhile to get used to it.
but yea, you can find some really good deals on new, used, and previous models that are still new but haven't been sold.
but i heard volvo's no longer making the R's. and i also read somewhere that volvo is considering dropping the s60 line. they're afraid the public will assume the s80 is a large sedan that competes with the 7 series/ s-class/etc. even though it's smaller.
so they're considering dropping the s60's with no replacement.

Nice car, Volvo never updated the HP....I ordered one back in 04 but decided on the M3 instead after giving it thought.
The turning radius on those cars is ridiculous, think Uhaul rather than performance sedan.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm looking at these because they would be mid range for me on price. IS350 at the top at Mid to low thirties, and these are going for around $25K. It would definitely be the smarter option for me as far as $ because I'd have a better chance of paying it off before law school. I'd like to be free of any loans before I start, and with the IS I'd definitely be paying still.
Other than electrical and a little bit of lag, any other known issues? I'd def. be getting an extended warranty, helps me sleep better at night.

'08 MX5 GT 6spd.
1) Best, most comfortable seats EVER.
2) The three suspension settings are all crazy different from each other. Comfort is Cadillac smooth, Advanced is race car stiff.
3) Tons of power
4) Bad ass stereo
5) Awesome sleeper, ton of mods, great car!

i actually wouldn't be surprised to see them going for that low for new.
also, one thing i really like about the s60r is that it's rare. even friends that aren't volvo fans and think volvos are old man cars turn their heads and are impressed when they see one on the road. a lot of people have never heard of the r.

Volvo really killed the S60R resale. I guess they just care about moving them until they are all gone.
I am not sure if they are keeping the incentives still tho.

i went to test drive the s60r last summer. the salesman kept insisting on me testing an '05 model. they had two new '05 models. it was pretty obvious that they're trying so hard to get them off the lot. he kept telling me he'd give me a really good deal on an '05.

I can't remember right now what the issue was... but there was (were) something about the 04's that they made improvements on in 05'.

Wow, it seems like the majority really likes this car. I like the "best seats ever line". I do a lot of driving, so that's nice. Also, I had a Mustang before the TL, and loved the hard suspension, but sometimes it was too rough for the amount of driving I do. Then I got the TL, and sometimes it's too soft. The Volvo lets you choose depending on your mood...so it really fits my needs.
If only the dash was better. The guages are sweet, but the CD player area isn't that attractive to me. It'd be nice if the NAV was visible and set in there, vs. popping up.

oh yeah... I don't think it's been mentioned yet... but there's the AWD feature that's a big +...
But be prepared to pay big $$$ when it comes time to do the (Brembo) brakes

I think what makes the nav is that it pops up

Thought I read recently that Volvo was no longer going to do an "R" lineup.
I've always like the S60R, but as mentioned, there are better handling, faster and more reliable cars out there in that price range.

funny, I'm planning on making my own thread about a new car soon, and the S60R has definitely crossed my mind. The other options being an 04-05 TL, 05 G35c, Legacy GT, and perhaps an 05+ GTO? Anyways, I think they're bad ass, however I do need to check one out in person and drive it. I completely agree that the center console lacks in the pimp design, but whatever. I didn't know it had an awesome stereo? Or that it had Brembo's?

The seats are great but either the interior is not durable at all or all the prior owners of the ones I drove were animals. I drove 3 of them and all the interiors were in awful condition (04-05's I think). Good deals though.

That's right, they will drop the R line in favor of the R package instead.
For the money there are better options. But it is a great option now with the huge discounts.

one of the (used) S60R's I was considering was actually a company car for Evolve... an aftermarket company that do nothing but Volvo's... It only had 25k miles on it... needless to say, it had ton of mods... but the seats/leather??!!! sooooooooo worn as if they take people out a lot or something... even the back seats... leather had cracks everywhere.
btw, this was the car... but minus the stickers (pics are from the SEMA show a couple years ago), I test drove this... and it HAUL'D ASS! But the kit and the color just screams out: "PULL ME OVER AND GIVE ME A TICKET"

I had one before I bought my TL. I had an 04 S60R. I wound up getting the car lemon lawed due to the fucked up suspension. In a nutshell, the suspension calculates over 1000 times a second via 7 sensors, with the intention of eliminating body roll, nose dive, and squat. However, it was totally out of wack!! It would under or over compensate, and either too early or late, resulting in in a very jittery, bouncy unnerving ride.
1)The car was VERY fast, truly 5.5 to 60 MPH, and on very flat surfaces I felt safe enough to hit 155 a few times
2)The seat were like thrones, softest leather and perfectly bolstered, it really enveloped you
3)Unquestionably the most amazing stereo ever, I mean thunderous. 13 speakers with dolby pro logic with surround sound
4) great looking car with nice rims and brembo breaks(13"), though they did sqeak incessantly
5)cool pop up navi out of the top of the dash
6)really cool gauges, looked like an expensive watch. Blue, and at night they were illuminated in reverse, hard to explain
7)did I mention the stereo!?!?!?!
8)300 horse and AWD
Any questions let me know

Also, for 300 horsepower, it was very good on gas.
