Rockstar143's '04 RYP S2000 Progress Thread **Updated Regularly**
#2841
So, after some deliberation and staring at pictures of my old S2000...I realized just how much I missed my Advan RS. The irony was that they sat, unsold for almost 5 months and I sold them the week before I bought this Rio S.
So the search began...turns out, finding the discontinued RS in the correct size/offset was pretty challenging. I had been in touch, off and on, with the new owner of the wheels. The great news was, he bought my entire square 9" set just for the rear and had a set he'd sell me for the fronts. I considered how much powder/shipping would be and contemplated the various options evasive and vivid had, and almost pulled the trigger on some TC105N but am really against the split 5 vs 10 individual spoke look. In the end, we worked out a deal, he got them to me quickly...and I got them to a powder coat guy and picked a color.
I'm in love with them...

Looking great bro! Glad you got em back haha. I like these better than TC105s
And love them twice that they aren't black again haha

well, when I got them last, they were a dark gunmetal...but the finish was salvageable with some touch up paint...plus tires were mounted and balanced on them and still good so I couldn't justify the added cost to powder. Now that I see them in a lighter color...I absolutely love it too!
Thanks Stevie B!
Thanh! Thanks, brother...I agree!
Plug and play! OEM bulbs with a twist in base, much like the TL. I could have gone LED but I don't want any headaches and like some of the stuff to remain perfect and functional on the car so I didn't want to chance it.
don't forget a 10 day old baby...hahahaha...
big thing in my mind with having a kid is all my buddies would say, oh wait until you have a kid, then you won't bother with your cars. I always wondered if it was true. WRONG! LOL...then again, they probably didn't put a ton of effort into their cars BEFORE their own children...so that would explain that.

When I saw your stocks back on, I was like...
Scroll down and see the Advans.....
Looks great man. One day I hope to see a different color wheel on there though, aside from gunmetal/oem.

thanks, man...quite kind of you to say!
What do you mean about the color wheel? You mean like a crazy color? I can promise you that although I think it can look cool, that'll never happen for me. For the cost involved in wheel color change, I'd never spend the money for something like that that I'd get bored of. Hence me never doing PC, or now that I have, picking a classic color!

I wouldn't classify them as crazy colors per se, but I guess since your previous wheels were a similar color it would have been nice to see something different. Something about mag blue wheels has been getting to me recently.
Yours looks amazing, nonetheless.

Oh, gotcha, that's what I figured.
Naw, man...I would rather have subtle differences in lugs/wheel stickers/letter colors than to have a crazy color on the wheels since I'm too much of a pussy to get them refinished when I get bored of it. I don't mind the mag blue, it looks cool and the 17x10 RSII that evasive had were a similar color. I would have tried it out, but in the end, I am happy I went with something that I'll still love when the novelty wears off. If that makes sense.
Steven, I've already posted more on social media and on here than I wanted to.

Bird is the Word
These wheels look so much better than what was on there before. They weren't bad, but didn't seem to fit as well as the Advans. This is getting me inspired to pull the trigger on new wheels for my car.

Do it, Adam!
Thanks, man...I love them very much. The Konig were cool...but the Advan were the look I missed a lot.
I need a new top...bought the car with a big tear that I frankenstein stitched...over time, the sun and maybe using the wrong top protectant (fab vs vin) caused some stress cracks. I then ran out of stormsure (which remains flexible) and used liquid stitch...big fucking mistake. The stuff gets stick, which then cracks...and takes the vinyl with it...in addition, it developed cracks along the outer edge of the repairs.
Sooo...I will be replacing the top...but not today. So I bought some stormsure and used the material I had to cover up the gashes, then sew a patch over each tear. Ended up looking pretty darn good! I'm a top always down guy so I never really see it anyway.
underneath, this is basically what I was dealing with.
who says guys can't sew...
even came back and covered that frankenstein gash that wasn't leaking
perfect? NO...but from a distance, it'll work

Well, here's the thing...
$600 buys you a top...
$600 more buys you a top installed...
Which you motherfuckers already know I'll tackle myself...but I need to have time and no stress to tackle (and wanting to see if next week yields any black friday deals)...so, in the mean time...no leaking and can enjoy my convertible!
y'all a tough crowd!

I never said it looked bad... But I think you, I, and everyone else who has been paying attention, know that will never "pass the mustard" for very long.
No way do those patches meet the DeerMeat QA standard. And the only way it won't drive you nuts is if you keep the top down and don't see it. But even then, you'll know they're there and it'll nag at the back of your brain each time you see the car.
I hereby declare my words marked.

LOL...you overestimate me! Adam nailed it, I've had the frankenstein patch since March without a care in the world...it's only because it got worse and ugly that I finally addressed anything...although I admit, the gaping cracks and holes of late did have me thinking it looked ugly as fuck.
I will be replacing it though, no denying that...just a matter of when and now I don't have to be in a rush!

Popping in from lurking for weeks (months?) to say congrats on the baby girl!
The new setup looks great, but then I'm now officially biased since I've joined the Advan bandwagon

Busy with work, slowly working on the car / learning to wrench by myself.
Actually just finally did the brakes all around, installed the RL calipers with big drilled and slotted Stoptech 350Z rotors and am super happy that my first brake job went as well as it did (although in hindsight if I had a little more experience I would have gotten it done in a single day instead of the 2 and a half it actually took )

Steven, you're so close! But being that it's Florida, it literally can be gorgeous, then raining in the blink of an eye (most summer afternoon's) although I do agree, it is usually nice. I would love to rock the tonneau cover all the time for this reason!
I was looking at the top more closely today, my handiwork actually looks really fucking good, if I may say so myself. I could live with patching any other rips that start developing for a while...adds character!

New wheel color almost looks like a battleship grey over your average gun metal finish. I like. Makes the yellow pop.
Now you need matching lugs...

Thank you Steven!
Yeah Jon...thanks...in different lighting they definitely end up having different looks, it's crazy. In person though, they're a bit lighter and definitely have more depth. If I could find lugs like the Mu that are steel with anodized caps, I probably would! I actually do have these knockoffs but they look more like a rose gold than yellow.
some redundancy but the picture spot was perfect so I got a lot of different angles!
