I'm over HID's...I like the reliability and ease of the original bulbs.
I used to LOVE HID look and updated modern and now I actually like and take pride in the simplicity of the original technology...
same with the Audi...halogen all day!

Ole girl is still kickin ass and taking names...
little road trip up to G-Ville with the kids last week.
On the way back I was hearing a noise...turns out had a bearing going bad.
Swapping out both front ones...they are seized in the knuckle assembly but
I'm persistent and have a BFH.
I was going to swap out a bunch of steering components to tighten it up but I'd rather
determine exactly which arms/tie rods might need to be swapped before blindly spending
money on parts that aren't failed. Previous owner was meticulous with weatherizing and all
bolts and grease points are covered in some sort of protection and lube. So far, not one bolt
has been seized on a 14 year old vehicle that lived in MD. I need an alignment and would like
to check freon levels and eventually to swap the heads but other than that, she's a great reliable
truck.

Yeah man, fuckin $94 shipped for both hubs from 1AAuto...
I know their parts can be hit or miss on quality but the rating on these was 185 people and it was almost 5 out of 5 stars.
The grease has a reddish hue to it...I mean I'm just GUESSING but there's only surface rust on everything, nothing serious...
and everything kinda has this greasy coating so I assumed that's what he did. I can show you what's on the door hinges
because that's where it's most obvious.

You get the hubs off? I tried to change out the ones on my wife's Ford Edge and despite having a BFH and a slide, I couldn't do it. I took it to a shop and they said they took almost an hour a side and used a torch, hope yours are easier.

Yesterday we had no kids so went out to dinner and finished Ozark instead.
I'll get her buttoned up today...
I soaked the fuck out of it with penetrating fluid...then I put my impact 15MM socket over the head of the bolts from that I re-threaded in from behind and wailed on those...took another 10 minutes but I got it knocked out...
yeah, got one side out, but called it a night to spend time with the kids.

Next up for the Yukon...
Get the shrader valve replaced on the high pressure side of the AC...needed a freon boost and AC started kicking ass again...oddly, if I don't turn on the rear blower, the front AC isn't that cold no matter what...I'll need to troubleshoot that better...or just have all the blowers going at the same time.
Also, got a little head yesterday...

At some point I'll have a machine shop clean it up and swap over...probably throw on some ebay headers at the same time to open it up a tad.

Believe it or not I love those even more now that I appreciate them...
this thing on a bad bearing got us home from Gainesville...with the weird head coolant thing, as long as I keep it topped off and do the oil every 3K miles...has gotten us to Tennessee and back including a hard run at the Tail of the Dragon on the Blue Ridge...
She's a bad bitch...definitely don't regret buying it.

We've had an '87 since about 1994 & though no longer road legal, it's still running great as a dedicated ranch truck.

Our 'Suburbalanche' has no carpet, no headliner & nearly no door panels. Nothing for the rodents to make a meal out of.
But, it's cheap to run & still works well after sitting down in S TX for years & only getting used a few times a year.
