I'm sure they will run a Christmas thing too...
it ended up being $60 more for the CBB over CBI
but I was too tempted and @ebelp went with CBB
and I'm not one to be outdone.

Has it gotten that much better that you can count on it being reliable with basic care for 7-10 years?

Who gives a shit about warranty, when youre burning your valuable time sitting in a dealership waiting to have your car fixed. While it's not costing you anything out of your wallet, you're still being robbed time and the more you're in that waiting room, the worse it is.

I used the warranty as justification to the female to spend so much on a Golf.

Then I promptly voided that warranty with a tune

She only found out about two weeks ago that the powertrain warranty is gone She overheard me talking to a friend about tunes, and afterwards she said "so your car doesn't have a warranty anymore??". I said the powertrain warranty, most likely. It depends on what breaks and how it breaks. Then she said "hmm, ok". It helps that she likes cool, fast cars. However, she doesn't think my car is cool

We discuss big things to get different perspectives. I value her opinion, and she values mine. But she also understands that Morgan is gonna do what Morgan wants to do, so she's ok with it. Just as I'm ok with what she does with her money - as long as we can cover our bills at the end of the month, we're good.

Yeah,
Johnny's advice is why I'm not married anymore, sadly.
I'm with you on that, man...
we do act like a united financial front but we both respect that we spend differently too...
not discussing it would be a bigger problem than spending it or not would be.

Ok, yes, you have a point. I mean it's nice to have your ass covered from potential pricey repairs. But.. it's only half the equation. The other half is your time and no warranty will replace that.

Honestly Sam, I have a feeling that R will be good to you throughout your ownership cycle and likely even beyond it. Especially since you're not one to alter a car much from stock. It seems the German built golfs are made to a higher standard or something.

So...here's the thing about warranties and why they aren't a waste of "valuable time". If I need to take my car in to a dealership I have two options. One, I can request a loaner car, a ride to work, or just get an uber. 90% of the time, this is what happens so I drop the car off and I'm on my merry way. Two, I can sit in the waiting room during the work day with the free wifi, free snacks, and free coffee/tea/water and do work. This is the remaining 10% of the time. All the while, the work is free and I go home happy and not worried about anything.

If I don't have a warranty there are three options. One, I go to the dealership and do the exact same as the above except the work isn't free and I'm pissed off about it. Two, I go to an independent mechanic and do the exact same as above (maybe less, most don't have nice waiting rooms or free wifi) exacept I pay a little less than the dealer but still pissed off about it. Or three, I DIY the work where it takes me 3x the time invested to do the same job and, while it's quite a lot cheaper, I'm still robbed of the triple time I put into doing the work that I could spend doing something else.and worried about if I screwed something up along the way. So, at the end, the warranty costs me a lot less in both time AND money.

I've done all three and believe me, the warranty is easily the way to go. Granted this is for bigger things. I'm happy to take on fluid changes or brake replacements on my own provided the weather isn't crap.

Well you voided part of the warranty lol. If your power seat goes out, you're still fine. With a VW I'm still more concerned about the electronics than I am about the mechanical bits.

No one thinks the Golf is cool because it looks like a Golf lol. They don't understand that what lives beneath the hood isn't what's in a normal Golf.

Totally agree. I just went over 6500mi this week and it still runs and works like a Swiss (German Swiss) watch. I don't plan on modding much, I'll get the APR+ tune but that has a warranty too lol. The German built Golfs are NOTICEABLY better in quality, fit, and finish. Which is strange because it's supposed to be the same interior haha.
