Yeah man, the modding bug is strong for sure...
we'll see...I bought a new petcock (pron: pet cock) because the filter on it was gummed up
and who knows about the diaphragm etc so I figured it would be good to ensure good flow of gas...
the other thing here is my bike lived on Melbourne beach for 10 years so every clamp and screw is pretty rusty where you
can't see...so I don't want to open a can of worms unscrewing all this shit that might strip out to have to do trial and error on
which jets to install and then deal with potentially running rich and fouling plugs.
I should have spent a little more for fuel injected as of 2012 maybe?
Either way, I have baffles removed on the oem...which isn't as loud and obnoxious but that might be a good thing.
I picked up the V&H for pretty cheap since they were scuffed up so I'll probably turn a profit selling it.

IMO, debaffled OEM is usually the best trade. I've been a nats fart away from buying a loudAF slip-on for over 10 years but I've realized that it's all "modbug" and not really necessary. On my bike, desnorkling the intake box gave just the right amount of ricer growl to scratch the itch. The only reason to swap the OEM exhaust now is to cover up a lowside slide. In fact, I generally assume any non-OEM exhausts are due to a slide. YMMV

Odd question you might know the answer to...there's one line that comes off a "T"...haven't traced where it leads under the bike but one side of the split goes to the tank vent...other one just terminates to nothing under the tank...it's tie wrapped up and looks like it's never been connected to anything...safe to assume it's a vent hose?
Yeah, it's funny...people say loud pipes save lives etc etc...and yes it does sound cool but I feel embarrassed to turn down any residential street where someone is standing outside...and the thudding popping on downshift is great but also supposedly means it's running so lean it'll eventually damage the motor...so really replacing with a bigger jet would have eliminated what I thought was cool. Plus, it doesn't hide the terrible touch up job the guy did on the rear swing-arm like the stock one does
There was a little bogging on cold starts but I'm realizing that's probably the nature of carb'd...
I figure with a new petcock, intake and plugs, I'll be good for a while without complicating things.

Well, after learning about the "reserve" setting on the fuel tank...I've had no issues with the old girl. Got the stock unbaffled exhaust back on this biatch and listed the V&H for sale.
Been running great with new plugs and air filter.
Have been going to watch the sunset almost every night, absolutely love it.

Congrats on the bike! Be careful, especially in Florida. And as someone else mentioned (I'm too lazy to go back and check ), wear all the gear, all the time. Even if it's just a test ride after doing some maintenance.

next time you find out someone died on a bike...or was hurt on a bike...or someone tells you they know 3 people that died last year.
Ask them:
Were they under 30? Yep.
Were they on a crotch rocket that is designed and built for a track? Yep.
Were they driving fast as fuck? Yep.
Was it at 1am? Yep.
He said the likelihood that an over 30 year old riding a cruiser wearing gear and NOT DRINKING (I don't drink) will have an issue is very slim.
Like you said, defensive driving...expect that they don't see you. Expect that they are distracted.
Count on it, even. And even if they do see you, count on them not caring. And then there are even the vindictive
ones that have had bad experiences and have a disdain for motorcycle riders. Be defensive...don't be a hero...don't let
your ego get the best of you.
Now that I'm getting to the point of being comfortable enough with the controls and actually maneuvering a 500 pound bicycle...
I'm just starting to really enjoy myself and I honestly feel like I probably will not ever not have a bike of some kind again. It's just
another hobby...like my kayak or my cars or my mountain bike. I enjoy it but it doesn't define me. I won't be buying leathers with
patches and changing how I talk or dress. I won't be heading to the local bar (Cafe 27) too often...maybe once in a while to look
at other bikes...but the social aspect of it isn't really my scene.
Ordered the Quiet Baffles for the Vance and Hines...I just painted the heat shield over with bbq grill paint too...so it looks pretty.
I really like how stealthy it makes the bike look and if it helps with the rasp while keeping the deep tone and adding back a little
back pressure I need to give me low end torque back. I'll be happy.

It's true. Most of the old riders I know have logged thousands of miles and typically ride on weekends at reasonable times under smart scenarios. Guys mostly in their 40's and up. You're going to have to lower your testosterone to prevent unwanted speeding

It's a little rough and you'll probably walk with a limp for a day or two, butt it's worth it to throw a leg over, grab the handles and go for a ride. The rash sucks but they make ointments for that.

Oh and I forgot to mention, bought the quiet baffles for the vance and hines...game changer...
added the back pressure I needed and took away the annoying high pitched rasp and crazy loudness.
Still have the crazy downshift thumping pops!
Also painted the air cleaner cover with plastidip
