Recommandation for a preown car under $40k?
My 06 TL got flooded during the hail storm and is in the shop for estimate now. the water went up as high as the driver seat im afraid it's unfixable from water damage. i need to start looking for another car as contingency plan before my car rental converage runs out. i want to keep the price under 40k. I want something larger than 06 tl, has somewhat sporty handling, V6, more HP than 260 hp, a nav, non acura/infiniti(had hond/acura/nissan all my life), somewhat reliable, luxurious interior, good comfort for highway commute(i drive around 20-25k a year). so far the only car that fits the bill is 2011 mercedes E350 with sport. I have looked at others like 2011 535i but they run in the mid 40's, 2012 A6 in high 40's, 2013 GS350 in the low 50's so they are out of the question...anything else 'm missing? thanks in advance for your inputs.

I'd say in no particular order:
1. Genisis R-Spec
2. E-class (look into used bc resale isn't the best)
3. 5 series (look into used bc resale isn't the best)
4. Audi A6 (Used of course)
5. Jag XJ
6. Used CTS-V
IMO the used market will have a TON of cars that you would never think to look at.

Assuming you want to keep 4 doors:
Genesis sedan was one of the first in my head.
Late 2G RL?
E350 Sport wouldn't be bad either.
A little older & you could get into a few AMGs for that price.

I haven't looked at reliability for used ones, but I actually tested and considered buying one new.

Go test drive one. I love mine. Gobs of power, sporty handling and all the creature comforts you could ask for.
The V6 still has plenty of power but when you add up the tech and premium packages you're not much less than the RSpec

E or 5 series
(last gen)
I like the new 5 series more, sportier feel as well. Genesis R Spec is a damn good car for the money as well...Shoot I'd go with the Genesis R Spec.

I remember working security for a lakeside neighborhood when the Genesis first came out. They all had wings instead of H's, we couldn't figure out what they were.

If Japanese is out of the question, Genesis.
I thought you wanted larger than the TL?

Got that. Just seems like a strange reason to influence a decision about so much money.

Understanding that the OP wants to go with a different brand, I will say that a new '13 TL SH-AWD can be acquired @ the $40K mark and is different enough from the 3G to warrant consideration. Aside from being an Acura, it definitely has the attributes being sought after by the OP!

With the help of a conquest rebate, I was able to get my '12 TL sh-awd for 35,995. No other car came close to the price. Additionally, it does not reminds me of any previous Honda/Acura I have owned.

My dad has 120k miles on his Genesis. Not a squeak, rattle or problem. The car drives like it did the day he got it.

You could probably get a CPO 550i. A good platform with Dame Edna Headlights although I would take almost anything in that class over a Genericis.
