Realistic price for 09 civic si with navi

ive been on the fence about getting rid of my 02 tl-s for a while. it has 119,500 miles and is starting to cost me quite a bit of money. im honestly just tired of the constant repairs (out of warranty) that come with a 7 year old car.

i am obsessed with keeping my car running perfectly. needless to say when something little goes wrong and i mean anything, i HAVE to get it fixed which isnt a bad quality, but its a little bit unreasonable given the obvious fact a 7 yr old car has flaws.

so i am looking into an 09 civic si coupe with navi. ive been researching online and seeing other people paying around 19k otd for them which is awesome imo. however i am assuming thats without navi. i am interested in getting navi, and was wondering if 20 otd is unreasonable? or at least under 21k otd. i am looking for anyone with some knowledge on this.

also, if anyone has any experiences with the si that they can share that'd be great too. i am a little weary about going from my tl-s to a civic and im afraid im going to suffer buyers remorse.

i have priorities now in my life though (school saving up to buy my own place, etc.) , so i cant afford to take on the responsibility of a 30k+ car payment like my taste in cars longs for. so any advice would be awesome. im not very impulsive so i would like to listen to any reasoning someone might have. thanks guys.

21.5-24k ish depends on how well you haggle

btw my OTD was about 22k and I got 6.49% at 72 mo/ @ 379$ monthly. Im going to be refinancing soon because I know I can get a better APR than that. but thats just a rough number for you

firstly thank you for the response, but wow does navi make that much of a difference on price?? i thought it would make about a 1500 dollar difference. when did you purchase it? im hoping now that its closer to the end of the model year i an get a bit of a better deal.

I just picked up a 09 Si Sedan(non-nav), I got the car for a little under dealer invoice with a generous trade in allowance. 2.9% financing, though that was April's special, I don't know what the May program looks like. Right now dealers are looking to move cars, the power is in the hands of the buyer.

The best way to get a good deal is to send out a mass email to all the dealers with in a reasonable drive from where ever you want to purchase, carbon copy them, make sure they know they are competing. Make sure you list EXACTLY what you want and you are looking to see who can give you the best deal. It takes the power and puts it in your hands, these are Honda's not Ferrari's! If you do that you'll have several good offers immediately, any dealer that delays or gives you MSRP BS tell them to take a hike.

Deal aside, I went from a 04 TSX 6MT, to a 07 G35X sedan(the new body style), to a 08 S2000 and now have the 09 Si Sedan and I am SHOCKED with how much I like this car. Sure the S2k was more nimble and fun to drive, but it was a hassle to live with as a daily driver, expensive to insure, got only mediocre fuel economy, etc... The G35 was fast and comfortable, but was a gas guzzler, expensive to insure, the leather experienced a lot of wear in the 15k miles I had it. I guess I am growing up a bit, but cars are becoming less important, I just want something I can drive anywhere, not worry about, gets good fuel economy and is reasonably fun to drive with out breaking the bank - the Si was a perfect fit. It attract no attention, which was my biggest complain about the S2k, most people thought it was something it wasn't and thought it was very expensive.

Good luck with what ever you do!

i get employee pricing cause i'm a Honda employee.
I get 25% off MSRP with tax. if your a good person at Neg. you can get them into what i pay.
the nice thing with me is i walk into a dealer and show them my Honda badge and they know there's no "wiggle room"
this is true on any acura or Honda

appreciate the response, thats exactly what i was looking to hear. i guess i am just weary about losing the luxury feel the tl has... but i cant deny the fact id be looking forward to a reliable and warrantied car. granted ill have a car payment, but the unexpected repair costs will cease. i may get hit with the mod bug, but thats a good thing isnt it?

anyway... straight paint balling so youre telling me i can get an 09 si with navi for under 20k? is that a bs answer, or are you for real? haha i do know your reputation on AZ ive been here a few years so i have to ask...

Given the economy, you should be able to get an Si with nav for about $21k OTD.

I agree with all the points iTimmy posted, but Id like to add a few.

If you are trading in the TL, dont tell them you'd like to trade it in until youve already agreed on a price for the new car.

Also, dont negotiate on a monthly payment, negotiate on the full purchase price of the vehicle.

And dont let them talk you into that BS "paint protectant" stuff, I forget what it's called. Its a waste of money.

Remember, you are the buyer, you are in control. A good salesperson knows when an easy sell walks in the door. If they refuse to give you the price you want, stand up, shake hands and say thanks for your time.

I did that once when my mom bought her 08 Accord. I got them down to $28k OTD (EX V6 w/ Navi, a week after the 08s hit the sales floor) and got her $14.5k for her 04 Accord that was only worth $11k.

If you do most of the shopping online, DEFINATELY follow iTimmy's advice.

i'd take what he says with a grain of salt.
but you should be able to get it to msrp of the Si without navi with some haggling. i litterally got the sales man to throw in the Si navi for free but then i changed my mind and got the accord coupe instead.

Water-S is a moron.

I highly doubt that you will be able to walk into a dealership, offer them $18,431.25 (75% of $24,575), and get that price. I'd start with $20k + TTL, maybe $19k.

my friend did it on a 08 Odyseey. but i went with him and told them upfront if you won't do this deal i'll order it through the employee discount plan. they matched it. . if you got someone with the magical Honda badge it's great.
it was a a EX-L with DVD and Navi loaded out MSRPed with tax at: 45 grand
i got it for them for just under 34 grand with tax

When did EX-L R+N cost $45k with tax?

Even at $34k with tax, you still did not get a good deal on the 08 Odyssey. With all the rebate going on, you can easily get 08 Odyssey EX-L R+N for $30k+TTL, which still is under $34k.

Even now, you can get a 2009 EX-L R+N for $31k to $32k. Adding 10% for TTL. You are still looking at no more than $35k.

MSRP on an 09 EX-L R+N is $37 and change. My brother went in to Honda this past weekend looking to trade in his 06 Pilot for either the new Pilot, or an Odyssey. They quoted him $34k for the Odyssey, and it was a run-of-the-mill EX, no leather or anything else.

Sure you did..............

I'm sure you and your friend walked into the local Honda store and you displayed, as you refer to it, your "Honda Badge" and they immediately gave your friend twenty-five percent off. Perhaps in addition to your many other careers and interests you should hire yourself out to individuals who you can accompany into Honda dealerships with your "Honda Badge" and immediately qualify them for a twenty-five percent discount.

OP, are you set on buying a new car or would you consider a pre-owned? If you aren't set on a new new car, I'd suggest a 06-07 Accord 6-speed, sedan or coupe. Simply asking because if you're used to the luxury features and ride of your TL-S, then the Accord might be a better fit than an Si.

That deal doesn't sound too good, assuming it's a 36 month lease, you're paying $12,300 to drive a civic for 3 years. I certainly hope mine doesn't cost me that much to keep for 45k miles! I was thinking of going on a year or two old Si, but these things, the sedan in particular, hold their value incredibly well. So well that with rare exception, at dealerships the price between new and used was with in 1-2k of each other.

A simple way to analyze a lease that I like to use is to look at what they would sell you the car for, in this case it is less then $20k - would this car sell for less then $8k(selling price of the car minus your total payment) in 3 years with 45k miles on it? absolutely not. Yes you have to factor in tax and the convenience, but these cars are super reliable and that lease deal is not close to being acceptable.

im going to put out a dealer quote request on honda.com and see what they can offer me... i didnt like the numbers either, but i wanted to make sure i wasnt being unreasonable with my expectations. i was hoping for around 249 a month for the si if i were to lease. is this actually attainable??

and to answer your question super trooper, i am interested in new because ill know what im getting into, and know the cars history. i am only interested in used if i can get one with super low mileage ... which i have been looking for on and off. any more info/help/ where to look for used and how to get the best deal on a new car would be great. this is my first time going through a dealer and i dont want to be suckered into anything.

let me pose another lease question to you guys then... 249 a month with no money down, but 1500 due at signing for a civic ex without nav or leather is a high price still too? (i ask bc my girlfriend is looking to get into a civic as well (if anyone recalls my other thread about used cars for her, shes now interested in a new lower priced car)

That is a good deal, and makes the lease rate they gave you seem even more out of line. If you get similar offers coming in you can try to push a couple dealers further simply by replying "you're going to have to do better then that" and see what they come back with.

thanks for the encouragement, yeah that was my first response and i sent quote requests to 6 different dealers so im starting off well. how realistic would it be to have a dealer throw in all season floor mats and the oem kit? am i just pushing it?

Probably pushing it on the kit.

Did you ask for a quote from these dealers on the Honda website? If so, I dont believe the dealers can see that you CC'd other dealers on it.

You should go to the dealers website and get the online sales dept email address and send it directly from your email account. That way, they KNOW they are competing.

Same here. I almost got an Si last year, then had my sights set on the new Accord. Somehow I ended up in a CL

That was another deciding factor for me too, the deal was just too good to say no to. The current civic is not the same car it was 10 years ago, it astonishes me how much this reminds me of my 04 TSX, which is exactly what I was looking for.

The new Civc Si in sedan or coupe are simply splendid cars.

I would pick them over the GTI and the MS3 everytime.

Though it would be hard to not go with the GTI as they are great, too. Factor in price though and the Si.

The more I see the Si sedan, the more I like it. So much so that the sedan one looks much better than the coupe now.

The sedan looks classier, I should say.

When would this model get renewed? in two to three years?

I'm thinking of getting rid of my TL.. it's getting old. I want something smaller, faster, more nimble, and more fuel efficient.

It will be either the new GTI MK6 or Si.

I'd say Si. The only reason I'm looking at jumping ship is the desire for four doors, and I miss having 4/AWD in the snow.

If it weren't for the AWD, I'd skip over the subie route and go for a 4 door Si.

Renewed as in a MMC or FMC? This model year is the MMC. The FMC is going to be for model year 2012. Yes, Honda put the Civic on a 6 year cycle now

I kind of like the new CrossTour (Accord wagon) thats coming out, its just a shame it isnt available with the 6MT.

^ Which takes it off the list. MT is a requirement for me...maybe a dual clutch system, but no torque converters for me.
