Raced my S4 and TL

Decided to go to a nearby pking lot and race my two cars. 2004 S4 against 2004 TL, both autos. Run was no match, all the TL saw was the S4's tail end which got smaller as the run progressed. By the end of the dash, the S4 was 2 car lengths ahead. All of this is nto a surprise yet I do give the TL credit for being fairly quick, although when you are up against the S4 you need to be quicker.

Yes but are you listening to dvd audio and barking voice commands in your S4? The most important question is how much did your S4 cost? There are lots of cars that will beat the TL as you know but at what price?

WOW.......

Now we need to try it on the M3, and then CTS-V, and maybe C6?

j/k

TL is meant to be known for its SMOOTH~V6.....not a V8 eater.

Thanks for sharing absolutely nothing. S4 = $50k+, TL = $32k.

Now, if this were a 2000 S4 (stock) vs a 2004 TL, then it might be a race.

No surprises there. Yes, a 340hp S4 should be faster than a TL. It costs over $10K more and has stylin' two-tone Recaro seats - it better be. You had to check for yourself?

The 2000 S4's are extreamly slow, great handling car, that's about it 260 HP, coupled with All-wheel drive, that is slow, I've driven a couple, not too exciting. The new S4 on the other hand makes me cream myself when ever I see one effortly pass through traffic...

Nauticalx1,

Do you own a G-tech or similar 0-60 and 1/4 mile checker?

If you do, will you run it on both your cars for me?

hey bro, i'm glad you took the time to post the details of your runs, obviously they are two totally different machines, but somehow, for some reason, someone always has to remind us all of the obvious. i think it's cool that you took 'em out for a race.

For the visually "challenged" members of this fine forum ...

he realized it was no challenge... however, MANY OF YOU tough guys and smart asses probably though the TL would have lost by 8 carlengths or whatever... but there is truth to be told in street racing ..

Which car you were driving Nauticalx1? You own a TL and let somebody drive it?

j/k.

As all said S4 is not a match for TL. It's designed, engineered, made and priced to beat TL.

S4 chrome trim looks like an Accord?

O.K., haven't ever seen an S4, but the picture on the Audi site shows not only chrome trim around the window but also chrome rear-views. That, combined with sub-par European reliabilty would make me leery of this vehicle!

Yeah, right, who cares about chrome trim?

Well, TL buyers probably. We're not looking for BMW-eaters, but truly sophisticated cars, right? When Nissan brings the Skyline stateside, we'll see about compromise to get performance.

Oh yeah, $50 k is a tad high price, too. But it's AWD, which helps in snow country. Maybe I'd take one for $31, I guess...

(Narikin, who traded his 2003 RSX-S and is waiting on a 6MT NBP/Camel!) :banghead:

Thanks for lookin out PeterUbers, yes there are definiitely some dumb fu!ks out there that just wanna hate and defend their TL as if I was tryign to diss it. Thanks for pointing out that in my initial post I recognized that it would not be a surprise for the S4 to win by alot. Guess it comes to show that some of these guys want to hate on a guy with an S4 AND a TL. But if you are in Atl anytime soon, we will take em out and Ill let u drive one and we will race.
BTW, someone asked which one I was driving, I drove the TL and my gf drove the S4. I figured that woudl explain the 2 car length, it may be more if it were a guy mashing the pedal but I drove the TL on purpose to see how close i could get on her A$$ LOL!

That fast little Subaru would own your S4 for thousands cheaper, so what is your point?

Actually, I think it's pretty entertaining to match up cars in obviously different classes as long as you don't take it too seriously. Gives us the opportunity to see just what our cars can do against the higher end competition without the embarassment of defeat. Good post nauticalx1.

I do have a question for you though...how in God's name do you have two AT's, especially when one of them is an S4?

Talking Raced my TL and Odyssey...

In a desperate effort to regain Acura honor, I decided to go to a nearby parking lot and race my two, uhm, vehicles. 2000 Odyssey 4AT against 2004 TL A-Spec 6MT. Run was no match, all the Odyssey saw was the TL's tail end which got smaller as the run progressed. By the end of the dash, the TL was 2 strip malls and a Bed, Bath, and Beyond ahead. All of this is not a surprise yet I do give the Odyssey credit for being fairly quick (for a minivan), although when you are up against the TL you need to be quicker!

Put some 'Powered By Honda' stickers on your TL, I'm sure that's about 20 HP right there...

And my friend's Porsche would eat the S4. What's the point? That's one of 100 other measures of a car's final grade. How does the S4 stack up in the other 99?

Exactly! Hey, there are obviously much nicer and faster cars than the TL, and the S4 may be both, but the post is worthless.

Hey, Nautical, thanks for posting. Why does everyone (ok, not everyone) get their panties in a bunch when someone posts about a car beating the TL? I think it's cool to hear about the TL vs just about anything, even if it's a different class, or has more or less hp. We are all smart enough to figure out whether the other car costs more, or has more power.

For some reason, some people feel compelled to trash another car when it out-does theirs in some form. It reminds me of two little kids... "Oh yeah? Well, my Dad could beat your Dad!"

Haha...I know! I'm glad to see people getting called out on this rampant spazzing. I genuinely appreciate any info I get on the TL. It's just nice to know, cuz lord do we all spend way too much time thinking about our cars.

People take things so darn personally...it's as if the original post read

"Decided to go to a nearby pking lot and race my two cars.... AND I HATE YOU! ...2004 S4 against 2004 TL, both autos...AND YOU'RE STUPID.... Run was no match, all the TL saw was the S4's tail end which got smaller as the run progressed...AND YOU'RE UGLY... By the end of the dash, the S4 was 2 car lengths ahead...etc. etc."

All kidding and mudslinging aside, the S4 is the coolest Audi I've seen since the original TT. It has an excellent blend of style, fun, and power. I think it looks incredible in blue.

What's really awesome here is that, for kicks and grins, you and your girlfriend went out racing. :worship: That's the real story here - bigger than what the TL did or didn't do. Sorry I missed that on the first read.

Since the new S4 is a v8 with nearly 100HP and AWD, this shouldn't surprise anyone. My only question is this.... How far was the run? I can envision the new S4 two car lengths up in 100 feet.

To those that were inquiring as to why my S4 is an auto, I ask, have you driven a manual in Atlanta? Not mentioning the traffic, the idiots that cut you off and slam their brakes and such, I decided that driving an auto was task enough. I do think that had I chosen the manual S4 it woudl have been fun at first but would have gotten very old very fast. Also, I am very happy with the auto, it is a great shifting tranny.

If i had to do it all over again, I'd have to say that both cars are good in their own aspect. I love the Audi's drive and power and overall look. Likewise with the TL but more appealing on this car is the interior gadgetry and technology put into making a solid reasonably priced car. I would definitely buy both again today.

Understand in theory but then kind of ask the question why get a sports car in the first place if you are just going to sit in traffic. I would rather have a comfy car. Believe me living around DC I know about traffic.

Either way that is a pretty sweet car. On my wish list if i win the lotto. manual of course

Good post nautical. Just be warned that if you post threads on performance sedans (i.e.: S4, 545i, etc,...) that can beat the new TL, you'll get :tflamer:

But if anything, your experiment should quell the dorks that will eventually post an 'S4 vs TL' thread, where they're bound to claim they beat an S4 by 12 bus lengths with their TL.

Nice experiment!!

Peace.
