I test drove an RX-8 recently. It was so slow, I thought there was something wrong with it. It was still very fun to drive, thoug -- fun to toss around.

You'll take the RX-8 if you drive without mistakes. The G35 launches easier but should be a driver's race (if sedan). Coupe is a little faster and easier to launch with the beefier tires but again, if you driver's race if you launch really better (and are the better shifter). Good luck.

Coupe is no faster than the Sedan in 6mt form. Auto Coupe yes is faster. Weight makes a difference in this area.

Yea the RX8 is very slow, I ran one, and I could have sworn I should haev just left it in 6th gear and floor it because it was so slow! lol

so in june you will get a new car? your are definatly doing some research ahead of time.

I saw two Rx-8's last night... lol damn rich kids in there, wanted to race, but i let them go. If my shifter wasnt messed up i might have taken them up on it, but instead watched them race eachother...

One was an Auto, the other manual... the auto won, because kids in this town cant shift for shit. manual was bucking through the gears as i watched them hit it on green.

G35 would be a close race... although its fwd vs. rwd and combustion vs. rotary

goodluck with whatever road you take...

RX-8 is NOT 250 like it was once advertised, and yes it is slow.. People have to launch at a stratospheric 7000+rpms to even make it decent.

G35 race with a rx8? BS. The RX8 isn't fast. It got slaughted by the G35 coupe in some test by some magazine.

The reason why the RX-8 is so slow off the mark is because it lacks the torque that TLz have at low rpm. The rx-8 only produces its power in the high rpm range 7k -redline, and by the time it reachs that point, the rx-8 driver would be looking at your TLz exhaust tips :-D

You made it sound like the TL has a large amount of TQ down low, which it does not. The RX-8 is seriously lacking and an embarrassment to Mazda's RX family.

i cant seem to get the 6mt to launch as i want it. I get too excited. I rev to 3k and floor it and i sit there and spin away, however, I still catch up when I switch to second gear. any suggestions?

2005 G35 6MT Upgrades...

Yup, the 2005 G35 6MT sedan now gets 298HP just like the 6MT coupe. The automatic sedan and coupe both get the same 280HP/270lb.ft.

The 6MT sedan Sport Package also gets 18-inch wheels, bigger rotors, larger stabilizer bars, and VLSD.

The sedan is actually lighter than the coupe, so will see how all this translates to the road. Now with the same horsepower, it should be even quicker, better handling, and better stopping than it already is.

A 38hp bump is very significant so expect to see noticeable improvement in speed. Also, the more significant change will be the 18s on the sedan. They also have a new sport model with a suspension much closer to the coupe. Expect to see slalom times around the current coupe which is approximately 2-3mph faster in the slalom (which is very very quick).

Also, the mp3 player is now standard Infiniti has upped the ante...lets see if Acura follows.

Looks like the G35S 6MT will be a 13 second car right out the box. WOW!!! Nice. It would be cool if Honda put the TL A-spec Concept (w/300hp+) into production to compete with the G35S 6MT. I love horsepower wars.

Well, the RX-8 is by no means slow. It certainly doesn't have the torque that the TL and G35 have, but it can still pull off quick 0-60 and 1/4 mile times (sure you have to rev it up and drop the clutch to get them). In the right hands, it could easily make a race of it with either car. When C&D compared the two, the RX-8 did the 1/4 in 14.5 to the G35C 6MTs 14.2; ultimately, the RX-8 won the comparo. Throw curves into the mix, and that's where the RX-8 is happy.

As for the 2005 changes to the G35, I wouldn't get your hopes too high fellas. 18inch wheels alone will do little more than slow it down (unless they lighten them up at the same time). Handling could be increased marginally, but 2-3mph in the slalom is dreaming. Plus, I'd really like to hear where the extra hp is coming from. I've actually heard that previous years models were underrated? Anyway, power is not where the car is lacking. Let's hope the interior and fit/finish has changed enough to compete with the other cars in the segment.

Actually, the coupe already does the slalom faster than the TL by more than 2mph. Check out both Motortrend and R&T and both confirm the slalom speed. The new sedan will get a sport tuned suspension more closely related to the coupe and get the 38hp bump. IMO, that will probably push it faster than the TL by about 2mph (since the coupe already does this).

FYI, if you put in z-suspension in the sedan, it drops it by about 1-2 inches. The only thing separating the g-cars is the suspension and tires, so by emulating the coupe, the sedan is sure to see handling advantages.

I saw a british car video some time ago which compared a RX8, G35 and a S2000...the RX8 beat the crap out of both of them...they tested it on a track with lots of curves...even though the G35 has a lot of HP and TQ..it doesnt corner as well as the RX8...BTW, the S2000 was last

Did you see the Best Motoring Video? The RX8 got owned by the S2000 and G35. I mean it was really really really really ugly. With that said, there is no way in hell the RX8 will ever beat an S2000 in any track with equal drivers. The S2000 is a purpose built sports car with a better weight to horsepower ratio and it is more nimble than the RX8.

About a month or two ago. I saw a wrecked Second Gen TL and RX8 on Route 1-9 North in NJ. I guess they were racing.

I saw that one on the web. The RX8 began well but faded pretty miserably towards the end. (Watching the other cars pass it from the incar cam, I almosted expected to see a Dodge Caravan pass it.)

The contrary occurred with the Skyline 350GT (G35C); as the race progressed, it made some great progress and wound up in 2nd place behind the S2k. Too bad the G35C had to get through traffic in order to reach second place; there could've been a good race between that and the S2K had time not ran out.
