Quick 335is stock dyno run

This was a base run made today before I add the JB4 & catted downpipes.

https://acurazine.com/forums/picture...ictureid=48280

I was surprised how flat the power curve was.

Sonnick 10-19-2011 11:41 AM

Nice numbers. I'm having trouble seeing which is HP/TQ though. They seem a little high based on what I've seen from other 335i dynos (270-285) or so, but numbers are numbers. Regardless, it's a great baseline. I hope you plan on dynoing again after your mods.

I'm gonna guess 405/405.

justnspace 10-19-2011 11:45 AM

^its an IS.....not an I.

They are all HP numbers 310whp to 312whp. Torque is in the 350ft-lbs range from 1500rpm up. The 335is is a different model then the 335i. Sits between the 335i & M3. Only comes in a coupe & convertible. Sold my 06’ TL 6MT to get it.

On the road exterior clues are 335is badges on the flanks & trunk 18 or 19" five spoke staggered wheels, black chrome exhaust pipes, solid exhaust note & other black chrome trim pieces. Looking forward to putting in the JB4 juice box & down pipes that are taking up space in my garage.

I should be back on the dyno late this week or early next week with the juice box. The downpipes are a PIA to install so that might take some time till my spirit is willing. I expect you would need meth to get in the 400+ range with 93 octane gas. I will be happy with something in the 380'sWHP & 400ft-lbs range with the JB4 & pipes.

Sexy ass car, Kev!

Sonnick 10-19-2011 01:36 PM

Wow, your car looks fantastic!

BEAR-AvHistory 10-19-2011 02:05 PM

Thanks for the kind words about the car.

There are a shit load of 3’s around here, 98% 4 doors, so this one is subtly different. Also its a nice sleeper for anyone not up on BMW model designations, just another 3 series with an old fart driving :devilgrin

juruki 10-19-2011 02:26 PM

JB4 335...

TLove It! 10-19-2011 05:11 PM

In ALL seriousness Bear, you are what I want to be like in 28 years. What I mean is, to have the toys and the nuts to drive or fly them to their potential. Last year I went sky diving for my 40'th and when time permits I will get certified. But back to the subject, I'm sorry if I missed some things but what is the full list of mods done to the 335is that will get you to 380whp mark? I am in love with that car and am toying with the idea of selling my boat to buy another car (335i or is):wish:

Thanks

myron 10-19-2011 05:41 PM

nice numbers and nice car. My friend test drove one and I was in the car with him and the guy from the dealership, so 3 guys averaging 190lb, and the car was still very very fast. I didn't like the price of close to $80k for a fully loaded one. And neither did my friend

BEAR-AvHistory 10-19-2011 05:58 PM

The additions to any 335i or 335is are the same. In my case it would be a JB4 running map 2 on 93 octane fuel, Hi flow 3" catted down pipes & a Hi flow intake air filter. I expect the JB4 alone running map 1 will put the car at 350whp give or take a few HP. The advantage the is has its got to make it easier to modify is a hi capacity oil cooler an additional coolant radiator & a factory upgraded exhaust. The 7DCT is very quick & very solid shifting.

This dyno is pretty representative of these three add-ons in that its been repeated by a lot of people.

This one is a pure stock (265whp) car running map 1 with 91 octane fuel. The addition of 93 octane will push it into the 350's with no trouble. For $480 its a steal as far as the power boost it generates. Again the results are very typical & not a hero run to sell the product

Not sure where the dealer got $80K from. Mine was $56k against a MSRP of $61,725 including 19" wheels & tires & a few other things I had no interest in. About the only things not on the car are the cold weather package & active steering.

JS + XES 10-19-2011 06:30 PM

myron is in canada.

btw, very nice results! these 335s with some mods are so damn quick!

For $480.00 it's definitely worth it. Thats about the same price I'm looking at to tune my wifes GLI from GIAC with a claimed 48hp. Tunes can do so much for Forced Inducted Cars.

alexSU 10-19-2011 07:07 PM

That's a real nice car! A monster for under $1000 worth of power mods.

:what: Where did you get that deal?

I think the 335is is a 2011 model.....how do your mods affect your warranty and maintenance program?

chill_dog 10-19-2011 09:23 PM

Great looking car and numbers! Love the wheels

Performance in Chapel Hill NC. Its pretty much the Edmunds true value price & right now there is a $1500 credit for the 7DCT same as when I bought mine.

The mods would be a problem for warranty work but not for the maintenance program. Map 0 on the JB4 can be selected which is a pass through before you go in for service (even in the dealer parking lot)& does not show up in the fault codes. The JB4 sits in the ECU box is not visible unless the actual ECU housing is opened up.

Since fresh BMW software can be flashed onto the ECU through the OBD-II port with the JB4 on map 0 there is no issue with ECU system updates.

For recall or warranty work the smart plan is to use its code delete function & then take it off the car. Since its all plug & play you just unplug the unit which sits between the cars electrical harness & the ECU then plug the car harness back into the ECU.

A lot of guys are pulling the downpipes for warranty/recall but many are not....have not made up my mind on that issue yet. If its a real issue 2.5” pipes would be easier to work with then the 3” set because there is more room to slide them out

mmafighta 10-20-2011 02:45 AM

amazing car you have man!

mrmako 10-20-2011 05:51 AM

Very nice car (the color is :flash: ). And I like the mods.

CCColtsicehockey 10-20-2011 07:50 AM

Damn crazy deal on the car I have seen them go for in the 70s for the IS. My buddy just picked up a convertible one. Definitely has a great exhaust note and love the turbos.

justnspace 10-20-2011 09:18 AM

Yeah I tried to talk him into a base M3 instead but he loves verts. This is his third after an A4, then Z4, now 335is.

JS + XES 10-20-2011 12:19 PM

^ dude i didn't know ISF's blue is "ultrasonic blue". how much hp does that give you? :O

We have had at least 1 convert in the family since about a year after I got my drivers license. What is CC Colts ice hockey? One of my son-in-laws plays adult hockey in Raleigh. Saw some of his games at the RBC center after the Canes played.

paliknight 10-20-2011 09:51 PM

beautiful car BEAR. i hope you take very good care of it. when im old enough and financially fit for a 3 series coupe (either is or M3) the first thing im doing is going to the BMW dealership!!! :wish:

It was the hockey team I played on in high school when I lived in PA.

Got word the parts for the dyno RPM function fix are in....should be making more runs on the house next week. If the JB4 is fully acclimated to the car will try for a fresh baseline then switch over to Map 2 (14.5PSI).

Right now the butt dyno says the car has picked up a very noticeable WHP spread over the stock "IS". Will most likely use the Traction Assist function to reduce boost in 1st/2nd to 10PSI so it does not over run the street tires.

For anyone in the Raleigh area looking for dyno time I would have no problem recommending Jay @ Mayhem Motorsports on Gresham Lake Rd.

We were a bit pressed for time so I did not redo the baseline since the guys at the shop & tuner manufacture figured the number was good.

Mad two quick pulls this morning with the JB4 installed on map 2. The rest of the car is 100% factory stock. Looks like 365whp. If I go to catted down pipes which would be my only additional mod it should do 385/390whp.

StreetKA 11-17-2011 06:55 PM

awesome
