Questionable Leak on 85 Cadi Fleetwood…Could it be from AC?
I bought this car two weeks as a second car for the winter months. It’s a canary yellow 1985 Cadillac Fleetwood with yellow leather. It was from an elderly lady who traded it in with only 86K on it. It had some hail damage on it so I picked it up for $900. I love it. This thing has been in perfect working condition so far and this thing floats down the road.
But……….
When I have been driving the car for a while there is a significant amount of fluid that leaks. The leak seems to come from below the passenger side.
When I touched the fluid it feels like water. It is colorless and not greasy like oil. It has been pretty warm where I live lately…upper 80’s/90’s… and the AC has been on most of the time. Could this be the reason?? I’m thinking this is just condensation from the AC since it has been so warm, but wasn’t sure. I’m not very familiar with older cars. Should I be worried? I figure if it was anything important it would be in the crusher by now, but just want to make sure.
Thanks

it's condensation for the air conditioning condensor...

A compressor circulates a liquid refrigerant called Refrigerant-12 (we tend to call it "Freon," a trade name, the way we call copy machines "Xerox" machines). The compressor moves the Refrigerant-12 from an evaporator, through a condenser and expansion valve, right back to the evaporator. The evaporator is right in front of a fan that pulls the hot, humid air out of the car's interior. The refrigerant makes the hot air's moisture condense into drops of water, removing the heat from the air. Once the water is removed, the "cool" air is sent back into the car's interior. Aaaaaah! Much better.
Sometimes we worry when we catch our car making a water puddle on the ground, but are relieved to discover that it's only water dripping from the air conditioning system's condenser (no color, no smell, and it dries!).

Thats what I thought.....Thanks
Yea, It would be a good project car...especially with only 87K on it. It is a fun car to drive bone stock though and I swear that I have been getting just as many looks if not more from this yellow twinkie as my 99 CL that does have mods (maybe because they think I’m an idiot like my wife…..their loss )
