question about MT&AT accord

why 6speed manual accord has less MPG than 5speed automatic??
I don't get it..do they have CVT kinda transmission on auto or sumthn??
17/25/20(6speed manual) and 19/28/22(5speed auto) seems weird

The 6MT doesn't have VCM (Variable Cylinder Management )
