Question about insurance

Ok so I now have 2 points on my driving record and its pretty much guaranteed that my insurance is going to go up in the next term. My dad is listed as a driver of my car, even though he doesn't drive it at all and I pay for the insurance myself (we did this so it was cheaper)

My question is, is his insurance going to go up? If so, then if I drop my policy and get separate insurance in my name alone, will that prevent his insurance from going up? Thanks....

His insurance will go up since you are under his policy. What car are you on within the household? His or moms? That car will most likely get a raise in premium.

You getting your own policy would be even more costly.

At least im pretty sure.

The only car I'm on in the household is my own car. So his insurance is going to go up also?

I would rather have a higher premium for myself only than have his insurance go up. I doubt he'll take my money for the increase in his premium.

Oh so you listed as the secondary driver on your car?

hmm i think your car premium will just go up then, not your dads car.

Im sure im wrong though, hopefully someone else can correct me.

If you went out a got your own policy, you would be paying probably even more like Crazy said, at least at your age. Might be worth checking anyway, especially after you turn 21.

Not 100% sure how they would handle that. Sounds like you're just listed as a driver under his policy, so yes his policy premium will likely go up and you would just need to pay him more.

Yup stay on your parents insurance as long as you can, or until the company drops you

Your insurance will go up since it's your car and you're the primary driver. His insurance should not go up.

If you were listed on any other car on the policy it would affect more then just you, but it seems as if that is not the case... so just you will be paying more since the insurance on your car will go up.

Actually, it really depends on the company. My dad has State Farm and they never gave him trouble with speeding tickets.

When I joined American Family, they knew I had one ticket but they didn't really care. However, Progressive went up about $200 per six months.

i don't know your company you go through. but the company i go through for my 2 cars (Traveler's Ins.) if you get nailed once(either speeding or accident). they let the first time slide. what happened was I got nailed for 59 in a 45. got a ticket. checked my record they posted 2 points on it. I called my insurance lady after they sent me a bill for my insurance cause i thought it would go up. they said as long as i don't get busted for 3 for speeding or accident at fault. it won't go up. so Traveler's gives you one "freebie" at any given time. now that incident "fell off" i can get a speeding ticket and not wig out.

plus i've found out Travelers for what you get is cheap IMO: I pay 100 bucks a month for full coverage of 94 Accord and 2000 Odyseey. basically about anything can happen to them and they either gotta fix them or give me a check for them.

Are two point offenses even reported? My only speeding ticket was 28 over (four point offense). I got a lawyer and he got it reduced to 14 over (2 point offense). He said not to worry because a two point offense would not be reported and it wasn't.

I had low risk insurance and they told me that when I signed up, one speeding ticket would cause me to be dropped since I had a Mustang GT and they usually don't cover those type of cars. But even with the 14 over ticket on my record, my insurance stayed the same price and even went down later on.

I was 26 at the time, so maybe it wasn't reported because I was over the age of 25. I'm not sure how it works with drivers UNDER 25, but it wouldn't hurt to check.

Any rate increase should affect only the car that you are rated on. However, your driving record could effect the whole household as in possible cancellation for "frequency". The other option would be to exclude you as a driver.
