Thanks Cmark; I'm going in for look-see tomorrow.
Gray (aka Diamond Graphite in Infiniti-speak). No, I don't hate crossovers; in fact, my old 05 Murano was probably the best all around car I've ever owned. I did a great job of combining the utility and comfort the wife wanted while rewarding me (somewhat) with respectable handling, acceleration and braking. (I actually considered autocrossing it at one point. )
I just dont like anything larger than a Murano/RX/FX, with the MDX probably being the only exception to that rule.
Back on topic, I'm going to check out an FX50 just see what kind of fun Yumchah is having with his.

As for the FX50...well, it's got some power to spare. Very fun...I'll try to post a review later on.

That FX deal did not work out for, which did not surprise given the rep of that dirtbag used car dealership. Couple that with the fact that I had to replace the windshield on our AV6 ($506 thank you!), today was almost forgettable.
However, I got the chance to test drive an 07 TL-S and a 2010 AV6 EX-L (Both AT). While the latter felt no quicker than my 07 AV6, the former felt like my AV6 on STEROIDS!! Nice!!

So, after owning this vehicle for a bit over a week, here are some impressions of the FX50S -- its good, bad, quirks...and well, anything else that comes to me while I ramble on:
Overall, I've never owned anything this powerful and fast and so, it is quite something to be on the road and know most of the time that I have enough passing power to probably catch up to anything I want. This is neat. The best thing about the car is indeed the power...but, it's perhaps also the worst. On one tank, the measurement is approximately around 500km for city travel with a bit on the freeways.
That is not alot...so, obviously, I get what I pay for and knew what I was in for when I passed up the diesel X5. Filling the car up yesterday put me back $75 @ close to $1 per liter. So, the car's tank good for about a bit over a week's worth of driving. Give or take. That's one caveat of owning a V8.
The drive is indeed...stiff. Infiniti may have yacked about loosening up the car a bit compared to the previous gen but to me, this is still a stiff ride. I guess the large rims play a role on this. So, as you can imagine, slipping the car into the "sport" mode is basically asking for a bumpy ride. For the most part, since the weather here has been quite dry and I have yet to really "hooligan it" around a corner, I have yet to test out the true capabilities of the AWD system and all the other things they crammed into the suspension and etc. That being said, I can also say that I have now gone a whole week essentially driving a RWD vehicle...Again, a new experience and relatively neat. Yeah...I like it.
The interior is, IMO, absolutely top-notch. From the buttons, wood trim, to the ambient lighting and the displays, Infiniti/Nissan has really created a winner. Of all the cars we tried, I don't think any has come close to the look and feel of the FX's interior.
The sound is terrific. Then again, having so many speakers probably plays a role. I'm a bit unused to having only a single in-dash CD player (apparently the 6-CD changer has been subbed out for the FX50S trim). In place, there is a nearly 10GB hard drive for digital music...But, considering how I own a bazillion CDs, I would probably like the option of being able to load up my favourite 6 every so often. I'm griping on this and it only appears to be me since the wife doesn't seem to care at all and is perfectly in bliss with the supplied hard-drive, USB drive, and XM radio.
I must also say that we absolutely LOVE the 4-way camera. Parking in this thing is such a breeze because of it. I hope ALL cars in the future get this feature. I don't know how I lived without it before.
Visibility on the FX is not as bad as some of the reviews I've read. I was at first concerned about it but with the massive side mirrors to assist, I've so far have had zero issues with lane-changing. So, no biggie.
Nifty things are the automatic braking or the distance control. I am sure those will one day play a role in preventing me from buying a new bumper and someone else's.
Anyhoo...that's my write-up for now. I'll try to put in other musings down the road as anything interesting comes up.

Great review Henry! It seems like you are very satisfied with your choice and that is what really matters in the end.

Thanks, guys!
Took the thing through a car wash yesterday at Esso. I guess the touchless washes are not that great for cleaning up new rims...
My rims seem to have a nice combo of brake dust as well as just dirt. It didn't come off even after the wash yesterday...Prolly will need to go after this the old-fashioned way sometime this weekend.

Small update: First warranty work tomorrow. Apparently, the tilting front headlamp on the driver's side does not turn with the steering wheel. The passenger side works fine.
Here's hoping they give me a G37 to hooligan-it during the time it's in the shop.

Thanks. While the wife and my older daughter are far more excited about the purchase than I, I am fairly impressed with how well a vehicle of this size handles the curves. (It seems to do so as well as the X5 4.8i that we test drove last year.)
Also, I can't imagine you NOT getting a G37 loaner from Infiniti as it's their most base car. Let me know how that is. A colleague of mine just purchased a loaded one....which I doubt will ever travel north of 60 mph during his ownership.

I actually have a G37 right now as a loaner and it's pretty fun to drive and I have taken it north of 60 Passing power is great in this car. It seems to just want to keep going.
It's a base model so no sports package but it still handles very nicely. 7spd tranny is a little slow to respond at times but manual shifting takes care of that.
All in all not a bad car. I'm taking it to NY for the week of Thanksgiving so I'll see how it is on long trips.
