We found out the invoice price by getting a report from carcostcanada.com. There really wasn't any "negotiating" because I was waving that and the fact I had no issues going over to BMW and buying an X5d.

So, the price I posted is the invoice price + GST + the ~4.3 profit + extra stuff (i.e. mats)...

I love how this thing started off as "we're thinking of having kids at some point so I'm looking for a new car..."

Yeah right, I wonder if the missus even really believed that one. Oh well whatever works.

We aren't...we talked it about it during our engagement that we'd marry and then stay as "DINKs" for 2 years and then have child #1 after that.

And no, I won't lie. The FX is not exactly the postercar for a child-hauling vehicle. Still, it is way more practical than the CL...and it'll be wonderful as a grand tourer (since we love to head off to the Rockies a few times a year)...

The FX is probably larger than my Pathfinder, more comfortable and safer. And we never really needed anything larger than the Pathfinder for the 1 kid even when we traveled. More than 1 kid, I would say you need a minivan.

I wouldn't say you need a minivan for 2 either but it sure makes life easier.

What's bothering me about the Ody is that 90% of its use (driving to and from work) is done with 1 person in the car.

At least Yummy will be having some fun on that daily commute.

The FX will work for you until you get to two kids and one more on the way. Then you'll want some more room.

Congrats and stay safe.

w/last 3 posts...which is why we defaulted to our 2000 Quest (purchase new some 10 years ago).

As the Accord nears its lease expiration, the wife and I are battling over what to get next. (My 19 y/o son has his Alti 3.5SE and he's rarely at home. We're actively shopping a car for our 17 y/o daughter and I'm certain she'll do likewise.) So being down to one kid (2 y/o), I don't see the need for anything larger than an Infiniti M45. However, she HAS TO HAVE an SUV no smaller than a Murano but preferrably MDX sized. But both of us don't really want to return to minivans unless we were to get an extremely exceptional deal on a new Odyssey EX-L w/Navi and RES......exception deal as in * for the MSRP of an LX.

It's the "trendy" thing, I believe. I know that all of Tina's friends who have kids have CUV/SUVs.

Let's see...what models do I know of that peeps we know own:

- MDX
- ML
- X5
- Cayenne
- Murano
- RX330

Yeah...it's kinda the urban Generation X (we're Gen X, right?) thing to do.

You can get away with a larger SUV. The Pathfinder we have is a bit too small. It would not be too comfortable.

I'd love to have that monster. But with the wife now a stay-at-home mother (read: one income) it's simply out of my price range now. (A used FX45 may be doable though. )
