You know, that is what I used to think. When I had the Volvo V70, it was good for room, albeit the kids were small. Once we left Europe (and the kids were getting bigger) we needed more room than a Stupid Useless Vehicle or a Cute-Ute. So I own a minivan. My Subaru can carry 5, but we don't do it very often. The minivan works great. I'm actually going to sell it and get this Honda:
Women tend to think they are safer sitting higher up. they feel more secure, as if they are on top (hint hint).
Jokes aside (is that a joke?) the reality is if there was a driving situation that called for evasive maneuvers, the safe feeling/riding driver will probably roll the SUV/CUV over because they don't know how to drive. I see it all the time in Colorado (I'm there frequently on business trips). When the weather sucks, a lot of women get their "non-minivan" stuck or have an accident. Your wife may be a great driver, and if so, I apologize.

I'm guessing minivan is an inevitability.
I guess our thinking is that we'll ease our way into that size...

That said, it's this thread's OP that brought up the minivan.

One step at a time...
Went to the bank over the weekend and put in an application...Start talking to the dealerships...and now, it comes down to who'll give me the best price.
More on this later. We're looking towards mid-Novemberish when everything is finalized I think?
As to when I'll be whooping around in a new vehicle, it all depends on availability, I suppose.

What I was NOT willing to do was wait until March for the Audi Q5. But, as for the X5 diesel and FX50S, both can be had in relative short time-frame...December is the latest.

You should take a trip south of the border, buy what you really want (Q5), then drive it back home.
Win/win. Vacation, vehicle of your dreams, lower price, everyone is happy....
No. The fact that most SUV/CUV's have less room than a comparable wagon/minivan just does not register with most people.
Unless you tow 5 people and a boat (Suburban/Excursion), a jetski and people (Tahoe/4Runner), or want to burn up a track event (is300eater), then use common sense and buy the vehicle you will get the most use out of. You compromise for sake of money, not because you "feel good" by sitting high in a vehicle.

so you ended up in a stupid suv while you have no kids when you could have bought a perfectly good used AM from AZ well before you even came close to slipping one past the goalie. seriously at minimum you could have had 9 months of AM heaven, worst case scenario you sell it to a oil tycoon here for more than what you paid anyways and fund mini yumchahs power-skating classes.
Son I am disappoint.
