Progress of the daily - Bagged MB C350

Hi I'm Tyler. Most of you don't know me, mainly because I drive a CL but also slightly because I lurk, but mainly the CL part. (Yes there is other sections of this website that all you 3G TL owners have no idea about, or so it seems) Anyway my CL is becoming a hassle/chore to drive to work every damn day. Thought long and hard about it decided to pick up a "daily." Somehow I settled on a crossover/small SUV, and even more surprising an Infiniti FX35. How I got here, I really don't know, but I've always loved the car and always wanted a VQ in my life, so I picked up this 2007 FX35. Black with black leather, 84,xxx, backup camera, heated seats,

Why am I making a thread for it, you ask? GREAT QUESTION! I'M GLAD YOU ASKED!!!

That's exactly what it is, a question. I assume it's because I will, as we all are, rather excited about cars and the modifications of said cars. I'm already looking at new exhaust for it for some stupid reason, although the OEM sound of the VQ is simply incredible, it just isn't, well, when-I-go-to-work-at-6am-it-won't-wake-you-up obnoxious. That being said, I don't want loud pipes for it, but I do need some more tone and slight aggressiveness to the car.

I got a little off topic there.

So the presumptuous reason behind this thread is honestly...what the hell do I do with this thing? I want to modify it, make it stand out a bit more, but how? I've owned the CL for so long and made it as unique as I can, and will continue to do so, but I haven't ever modified anything else. So what I'm asking you all for is suggestions, comments, criticisms, who are you agains, etc etc

Help me make this thing cool!

Oh yeah here's what it looks like:

Also here's a link to my thread over in the dusty, cob web ridden section called 2nd Gen CL's:

Actually...is300eater has a fx40 that he has modded...I'm sure he'll chime...after his wedding is over tonight.

And NOT everyone here is a 3g tl owner....most of us, especially the og's were all CL owners...since this site started as a CL site that merged and grew over the years and became this place. long story short.

1. First, trade up that thing to the FX45. You want noise? The 4.5 will satisfy that. (JK, JK, I owned the 45).

2. Did you get the radar controlled cruise control? That pretty much drove me from Montgomery to Peachtree City, GA without touching the gas more than twice almost every weekend back when I was at ASBC.

3. Don't bother with pipes!

...with a few 2GTL owners thrown in.

Nice pickup, OP. Nothing like that stock VQ engine exhaust sound. Why bother with a new exhaust? Just get some nicer wheels and you're pretty much done.

I know, the 3G section is just the most active. I didn't post in my thread for over a month and it was only about 10 threads down on the first page. If you don't post in the 3G section in a day or two you're on the 2nd page easy.

I would love to pick the brain of another owner of an FX though.

I thought about a 45, but I just didn't feel the necessity of it. It doesn't have a ton of bells and whistles, just enough for me to enjoy it. No radar cruise, not even worried about it. I really want new exhaust, but that won't happen any time soon. Took me about a year to decide on HKS exhaust for my CL. HKS makes the Legamax for the 35 and it's not much crazier than stock. Might have to pick that system up in the future.

Wheels are a must, but I honestly have no clue what would look good on it. I almost want concave, but some nice lips would also be cool. Like I said, I don't want it to be crazy loud like the CL (no resonator+straight through mufflers) just have a bit more voice to it.

Also I learned to not drop the key as the RFID chip easily breaks out of it and then it won't start, and then you have to look for a tiny black microchip on asphalt at 11pm, so that's something.

I have a copper/brick sport one I gave to my sister and loved that thing. I wouldn't bother with exhaust and if I remember correctly, most say the 35 sounds better than the 45. Get the sport tails and sport rims or go concave. I hate when people but lips on the fx but that is just me.
Enjoy! On a have a navtv which was cool

Dropping it is still in the "unsure about that" section since that's a big reason I don't drive the CL everyday anymore. And GTFO with those GTR wheels, I want them but dayum are they expensive.

If I'm spending money on nicer wheels I am for sure not going with the hilarity that is called Vossen wheels. They're good looking wheels, just not worth the price they want for them.

I really am leaning towards a nice concave setup on it. I honestly really like the tails as they are. They are the LED ones and I don't want to mess with them.

Yea, they all came with LED's but since you have the 18's, silver trim, silver headlights, and black roof racks, I'm guessing you have the base. The sport came with the clear LEDs below which makes the car really look good IMO and easy to retro plus being OEM, they are completely legal.

You are lucky you got the upgraded interior, made a huge difference. I would check out infinitiscene or infinitifx.org if you haven't yet. I would also look into the stock 2nd gen 21 inch wheels. Stock looking but a nice upgrade.

Here is the thread I pulled this from. I would also look into the color matched grill (assuming yours is black and not blue which I can't really tell) and the silver emblem as above.

I saw a blacked out FX35 recently. The grill, door handles, smoked lights front & rear, & the rims were too. The rims were wide or high offset so the stance was wide & it had meaty all terrain tires. Looked bad ass to me.

Tyler thanks and I'll kill you.

I don't think I'll black it out completely (it is black) as I like the contrast the grill racks handles etc etc give the car. I mean I've owned the car for a week now so I'm not jumping into any mods just yet.

No I lied.

Well kind but not really.

Got white 4-led bulbs for all the interior lighting and license plate, and am getting an AUX in done today as well. Window tint will be happening when I am in STL for Thanksgiving, going 5% all around. I'm also probably going to get WeatherTech window visors as I love the functionality of them.

I think all of the boutique wheels are too expensive, but if I could justify the cost I'd be all over a set of Vossens.

That white FX was the only good-looking one could find after Googling "FX drop wheels"

If you really like the GT-R wheels, I'm sure there are reps sold somewhere.

I hear you about the drop. If you go with aftermarket wheels, maybe rock those alone first and if you think you could give a little on the ride, go for suspension?

Something like Eibach springs should be able to finish off the look while not being too hard on you/your shocks.

Either way, even just new wheels should really set the car off. Looks like you have a really clean example, too.

I think I'd rather have some other kind of wheel than replica GTR wheels. I can see it now...
Damn are those GTR wheels?
Yes.
No.
Kinda.

I think wheels will be the first mod to the car, well major mod that is.

Well, Googling Infiniti FX wheels doesn't really get you a whole lot of places so I'm just randomly searching wheel manufacturers I can't afford just to look at styles that are offered in larger sizes. 20s are the max I will go for it. 19s are a happy medium. I honestly have no idea what to do as far as wheel styles. All I know is I want concave, but what style??? Basic 5 spoke? Mesh? Multi spoke?
