Portable GPS Navigation - for both North America and Europe

Anyone have any recommendations for a portable GPS, preferably one that works both in and out of cars (i.e. decent battery life), that is capable of working in both North America and Europe? This could be native support or require downloading of European maps.

Thanks.

I don't think anything that requires live downloads would work, due to needing to pay for international air/data time. Otherwise I would download a nav app for my storm. I want something we can use while in the UK and France over the summer. We'll be driving around the UK and mostly metro and walking in Paris, so having both in and out of car capabilities is esential.

Go to Garmin's website and find the one with all the features you want.

I have a program on my Palm called Earthcomber that allows me to download maps to my PC which I then transfer via USB since I don't have an internet plan. What about google maps?

I think the newer ones hold the maps on SD cards so maybe get a unit and then 2 SD cards one with Europe and the other NA

while Garmin seem to be more popular in the States, I hear TomTom is the preferred brand in Europe... (but I might be wrong).

I have a Garmin Nuvi 350 that I brought with me to Amsterdam and mounted on my bike. Basically, I just had to buy the Europe map SD card off ebay for $50. Worked like a charm!

Thanks for the info. Sounds like the Garmin should work.
