Aint Doing Sh*t
300 hp R would be the heat. If is starts at a lower rpm.
I Just hit 1000 miles in my R. Dont have any glaring complaints. Wish the power came on a little earlier. I do wish that VW would have left a few things in from the euro version. I have been getting around 21 mpg. Thats going to get lower because I cant drive slow.
Overall its a great DD. If we got the DSG it would be perfect. I haven't DD a manual since 07 so it taking a bit to get used to.
If you get one take the soundaktor if the PO hasn't.

Whats up with RDX owners?
iTrader: (9)
A lot of new cars are doing this, even my FR-S has it It will be deleted when I get a proper intake and exhaust, but for now, its the easiest way of knowing how high in the RPM range I am without looking at the gauges.
I still vote R. But I do like C30s with mods.

Of your choices, I'd go with the Golf R. My reasoning:
You go through cars pretty quickly, so 22 months should be enough time to get your fun out of it.
You won't be bored in it.
The price is right.
So how much would you have to pay in NY taxes to get it?

Another factor to consider, I register my personal work car/DD under my dealer policy. I don't pay extra insurance for having it on the policy. It gets added to my inventory and the cost of the car subtracted from the total coverage for my inventory (E.G. Policy covers $200k in inventory, the car costs, say, $30k, so with my DD added to my insurance as inventory, I now have $170k of coverage remaining). If I lease any of these cars new, I can put an application in under my company and me as Guarantor. Once approved I can register/insure it under my company.
With VW, when assuming a lease, the person who is currently leasing it becomes the co-signer, and the person (in this case, me) assuming the lease becomes the main applicant. Between my buddy who is leasing it and me, it's not a problem, he trusts me, so no worries there. With that said, if I assume the lease, I may have to register the car personally, as VW may not allow a company lease and PG if it is already leased in someone personally. Have to look into this, but if I can't register the car under my company, that means an extra $1,800/yr in insurance I would have to pay out of pocket to insure it personally. NY sucks like that. Insurance it ridiculously expensive here.
The best value for my dollar is leasing a new GTI, MSRP around $31k. If it was up to the wife, she's all for low payment, GTI wins. The way I see it, if I have to spend, say $420/month for the Golf R which is MSRP'd around $36k, and like $450 for the Mini MSRP'd at around $35k, at that point I'd rather spend the extra money and get a BMW for around $500/month, with a $50k MSRP.

I am super-glad I don't live in NY. Registering a car in Ohio is dirt cheap, no inspections other than smog inspections every two years (and the inspections are "free"....we the taxpayers pay for them).
Anyhoo, your logic is sound, Eddie. GTI away! It's a great car.
PS: I like the style of the Veloster, too. It reminds me of a 70's Honda Civic. I LOVE those and my dad owned one when I was a kid. As for the Veloster, it looks fast but isn't--what a bummer.

Really? I was pleasantly surprised by the 6MT when I tried the C30. Short enough throws and great feel. IMO it wouldn't be too out of place in a Honda.

Did you take it to 5th or 6th? I mean I was sitting on the auto show floor, not moving, but the shift feel was very sloppy, and it was extremely difficult to get it into 5th and 6th. A few times I thought I was in 5th, then I realized I was in reverse.

Probably high 6s with MT from 0-60 and still getting 38mpg HWY.. not bad. Should be a fun car as well.

Veloster may be on the same power as the GTI, but I'd assume that it wont handle or feel anything close to what the GTI is like.

Shoof, I know you think the Focus ST is too boy racer and perhaps those wheels don't help but the power to weight ratio of it is going to be about 12.7lbs/hp (252hp and 3200lbs). I think the car has the potential for even more than that with CAI/CBE.
The GTI is 16lbs/hp. The Golf R is 256hp and 3325lbs but with AWD will probably be quicker but is about $5k more.
I think that unless you're going to do something right away, it's at least worth a look.

And as for the Veloster, I don't think the Turbo is out yet. On Hyundai's corporate site, it's still listed in "future vehicles" too. I could call my Hyundai rep and ask them. The only thing discouraging me from the Veloster is that any review I've read about Hyundai/Kia Turbo motors weren't that great. Plus, if the shifter on it even closely resembles the shifter on the '12 base Sonata I drove last month, I don't think i'll like it.
As for the revised front end of the Turbo, it's definitely better than the N/A version, but I still don't like it as much, waaay too busy, most of what's going on in front not even being functional. I would only consider this car because of the funky design (at least 3/4's which I'm satisfied with), and not much else. I'm not sure if i'm up to compromising in a decision to get a Hyundai.

A sick part of me says screw the stick, and just get a loaded Grand Cherokee with a tow package...you know, so I can carry my Lotus to those track days...
But then I come to the reality that I can't get myself to do that. If I get a G/C, I'd get a base one, lease it cheap and use as an extra work/chase car for deliveries instead of putting a crapload of miles on my personal car.
For someone in the business, I sure am not having a fun time deciding...
